Correa Extensible Sealskin
The Sealskin Leash with a second clip. Two aluminium locking carabiners and two rings, so one lead clips into a lead with a handle, a 90 cm short lead for the crossing, a hands-free shoulder loop, a cafe tether, a double-ended training lead on the harness, or a 3.6 m long line joined to a second one. Same coated webbing with no fabric core: it goes in the sea and comes out clean. Not a retractable, not a bungee. Nine colours, a Glow that charges in daylight.

How it works
Why a second clip does more than a longer lead

Two clips, two rings, six ways to clip it
The dog end has an aluminium carabiner with a locking sleeve on a swivel, and a triangle ring just above it. The handle end has a second locking carabiner and a ring a hand's width from the end.
- Loop handle or cafe tetherHandle-end clip into the handle ring: a lead with a loop handle. Round a post and clipped back into the handle ring: a tether for the cafe table.
- Short lead or shoulder loopHandle-end clip into the ring at the dog end: the lead is a closed loop, held doubled as a 90 cm short lead for the road, the crowd and the school gate, or worn over one shoulder for a hands-free walk.
- Training lead or long lineOne clip on each ring of the harness: the double-ended training lead. Clipped into the dog-end ring of a second Extendable: 3.6 m for recall practice in an open field.
- Both sleeves lockBoth sleeves lock, so a gate cannot be pushed open against a ring, and aluminium does not rust.
The training walk: one clip on the front ring, one on the back
Nothing you clip to a dog stops it pulling; a front-clip harness redirects the pull and training removes it. What a second clip gives you is two points of contact on the harness at once.
- Front turns, back takes the loadThe front ring turns the dog back towards you when it surges, the back ring takes the load without twisting the harness.
- Hold the middle, hands freeYou hold the middle of the lead with both hands free to steer, reward and shorten.
- Unclip the front to crossFor the road crossing, unclip the front and hold the doubled 90 cm loop.
- Never a collar or your handNever a collar for any of this, never a lead wrapped round your hand, and the webbing is rated far beyond any dog, so your grip is the thing to look after, not the lead.

Goes in the sea, comes out clean, and it is not a retractable
The webbing is PVC-coated with no fabric core, the same as the Sealskin Leash and Collar.
- Nothing soaks in, nothing smellsSea water, sand and mud cannot soak in, a rinse under the tap takes them off, and it is dry in a wipe with no smell left, because there was nowhere for the smell to live.
- Rinse the clips, dry them openRinse both clips after salt water and let them dry open.
- Extendable, not retractableThe name says extendable and the length does change, by where you clip, never by a spring.
- Fixed, with no bungeeThis lead is fixed at every setting, and there is no bungee either, so a lunge stops where you stop.
Size guide
Extendable Leash length and fit guide
Three fit rules
-
One length for every colour: 180 cm of 2 cm coated webbing. Clipped into a loop and held doubled it is about 90 cm; joined to a second Extendable it is 3.6 m.
-
For dogs from about 5 kg. Under that, two aluminium clips are heavy hanging off a small collar, so clip it to the harness or choose the plain Sealskin Leash. No upper limit on the dog: the webbing and the clips are rated far beyond any dog, which is why your grip, not the lead, is the thing to look after.
-
Which lead: the same webbing with a sewn handle and one clip, 2.5 cm wide, is the plain Sealskin Leash. Three lengths on a slider with a padded handle and reflective stitching is the Explorer Adjustable Leash. Running with a dog that hits the end of the lead is the Explorer Bungee Leash. Two clips, the beach, the road crossing, the cafe and the training walk is this one.

How to
How to clip, walk and look after a double-ended lead

Pick the clip point before you leave
Handle ring for the everyday walk. Dog-end ring, held doubled, for the crossing and the crowd. Front and back rings of the harness for the training walk. Turn both locking sleeves and check them with a thumb.

Harness for a dog that pulls
Both clips go on the harness for any dog that pulls and for any dog under about 5 kg: the front ring turns the dog, the back ring takes the load. On a calm walker the D-ring of the Sealskin Collar is fine for the dog-end clip, and the tag stays on the collar.

Hands-free and tether, with the rules
Over one shoulder only with a dog you could hold by hand, and step out of it beside traffic. Round a post and clipped back to its own ring only while you sit right beside the dog, on a harness, never a collar, and never walked away from.

Hold it, never wrap it
Hand through the loop or round the doubled webbing, thumb over. Never wrap a lead round your hand, wrist or fingers: this webbing will not break when a big dog lunges, and a finger with the lead wound round it will.

Rinse both clips, check both ends
After the sea, the dam or the mud: rinse the lead and both clips under the tap, wipe, done. Sand in a sleeve is the one thing that stops it turning. Once a month check the stitching at both ends and both rings, and retire the lead if any of it lifts.
Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, emergency veterinarian
A lead does not stop a dog pulling; a front-clip harness and training do, and the two clips on this lead let you use both rings of the harness at once. Clip it to a harness for any dog that pulls and for any dog under about 5 kg, because repeated jerks on a collar bruise the windpipe and in small breeds can worsen a collapsing trachea. Two locking sleeves now: turn both, and check both before every road. The shoulder loop is for a dog you could hold by hand and never beside traffic; a big dog that lunges from a shoulder loop pulls you over. Never tether a dog and walk away, and never tether by the collar. Never wrap a lead around your hand or wrist: coated webbing rated for hundreds of kilograms does not break when a big dog lunges, and a finger with the lead wound round it does. There is no shock absorption, so a dog that hits the end of this lead at a run takes the jolt through whatever it is clipped to. The 3.6 m joined line is for a harness in an open space, never a collar. Rinse both clips so sand never jams a gate.

Why I designed it
One lead, clipped six ways. For the walk that changes halfway through.
A walk is never one thing. It is a footpath, then a road crossing, then a beach where the dog wants the whole world, then a cafe where you want both hands and the dog wants to lie under the table. Most people own a lead for each of those and use the wrong one for all of them.
- A second locking clip and a ring at each endSo this is the Sealskin Leash with a second locking clip and a ring at each end. Clip the handle-end clip into the ring by the handle and it is a normal lead with a loop handle. Clip it into the ring beside the dog-end clip and the lead is a loop: held doubled it is a 90 cm short lead for the crossing, over one shoulder it is hands-free for the coffee and the pram.
- A tether while you sit beside the dogRound a post and clipped back to its own ring, it is a tether while you sit beside the dog.
- The one that matters most in my consult roomAnd the one that matters most in my consult room: one clip on the front ring of the harness and one on the back, with the lead in the middle, which is how a trainer walks a dog that pulls, because the front ring turns the dog and the back ring takes the load, and no lead on its own has ever stopped a dog pulling.
- A 3.6 m long line for recall practiceClip it to a second Extendable and it is a 3.6 m long line for recall practice.
- It is not a retractableIt is not a retractable, and I would not sell one: the thin cord takes skin off hands, and the spring teaches the dog that pulling earns distance.
- Tested every version, mostly wetThe webbing is the same coated webbing as the rest of the Sealskin range, so all of this happens at the beach and the lead comes out of the sea clean. Nine colours match the collar and the harness, and the Glow charges in daylight for the walk home. Bridie and Kiko tested every version, mostly wet.

Is the Sealskin Extendable Leash a retractable lead?
No, and on purpose. It is a fixed 180 cm lead of coated webbing with a locking clip at each end and a ring at each end, and "extendable" means the working length changes by where you clip: about 90 cm doubled, 180 cm end to end, or 3.6 m joined to a second one. A retractable lead runs a thin cord that takes skin off a hand when a dog bolts, and its constant tension teaches the dog that pulling earns distance. This lead does neither, and it has no bungee, so a lunge stops where you stop.
How do the six ways work?
One: handle-end clip into the handle ring, a lead with a loop handle. Two: handle-end clip into the ring beside the dog-end clip, then hold the doubled lead, a 90 cm short lead for the road and the crowd. Three: the same closed loop over one shoulder and across the body, hands-free for the coffee and the pram. Four: round a post and the handle-end clip back into the handle ring, a tether for the cafe table while you sit beside the dog. Five: dog-end clip on the back ring of the harness, handle-end clip on the front ring, hold the middle, the double-ended training lead. Six: handle-end clip into the dog-end ring of a second Extendable, a 3.6 m long line for recall practice on a harness. Turn both locking sleeves whichever way it is clipped.
Is this a lead for a dog that pulls?
It is the best lead in the range for one, for a reason that has nothing to do with strength. Nothing you clip to a dog stops pulling; a front-clip harness redirects the pull and training removes it. With two clips you put one on the front ring of the Sealskin Harness and one on the back and hold the middle: the front ring turns the dog when it surges, the back ring takes the load, and you steer with both hands. That is how trainers walk a strong dog. Never on a collar, and never wrapped round your hand: the lead will not be the weak point, and a finger will.
Extendable Leash or the plain Sealskin Leash: which one?
Same webbing, same clip at the dog end, same beach. The plain Sealskin Leash is 2.5 cm wide with a sewn loop handle and one clip: simpler, the lead for a home that wants one lead and one job. This one is 2 cm wide with a second clip and two rings, for the walk that changes halfway through and for the training walk on both harness rings. If you want three lengths on a slider with a padded handle and reflective stitching, that is the Explorer Adjustable Leash. Plenty of homes own the Extendable for the week and the Explorer Bungee Leash for the run.
Can I use it hands-free, and is that safe?
Clip the handle-end clip into the ring at the dog end and the lead becomes a loop; put it over one shoulder and across your body and the dog is attached to you with both hands free. Two rules. It is for a dog you could hold by hand if you had to; a big dog that lunges from a shoulder loop pulls you over. And step out of it beside traffic, where you want the doubled 90 cm loop in your hand. For the cafe, round a post and clipped back to its own ring is fine while you sit right beside the dog, on a harness, never a collar, and never for a minute after you stand up.
How does the Glow colour work, and is it reflective?
The Glow lead is cream by day. It charges under daylight or a lamp and glows green in the dark for a while afterwards, brightest in the first hour, so you can see the line between you and the dog on the walk home; the night photo on the Glow colour is two goldens in Glow harnesses on Glow leads. It is a glow, not a reflector: it does not throw headlights back, so for road walks after dark add a clip-on light. The other eight colours have no reflective element.
Is it really waterproof, does it smell, and is it real biothane?
Waterproof and smell-proof for the reason that matters: there is no fabric in it. Coated webbing does not absorb water, so there is nothing for sea water, dam water or mud to soak into and nothing for bacteria to live in, which is where the smell of an old nylon lead comes from. Rinse it or wipe it and it is dry and clean in a minute; rinse both clips too so sand never sits in a sleeve. It is PVC-coated webbing with no fabric core, the family of material sold as biothane. It is not rubber, although the coating has that soft, slightly grippy feel in the hand.
What if it arrives damaged or I chose the wrong colour?
