  1. 0:05 G'day, I'm Dr Duncan Houston, and this is my fake living room.
  2. 0:10 This is my snuffle mat range, so I'm putting everything together here, as well as kind of packages or, you know, colours, colour combinations that work together. This should help with everything that we do on the website.
  3. 0:23 Look, these are the fabric snuffle mats, so we've gone through and we've looked at like on these ones on the ground over here. We've got the silicone snuffle mats. We've spoken about them, or I've spoken about them before, and this is the, you know, these are the fabric ones. The snuffle balls are made out of a polar fleece material. These are not polar fleece. This is a thicker cotton fabric, and these are loops that are stitched down. You've also got like a sticky grip on the outside, and then you've got these elastic loops.
  4. 0:47 There are three on each of these snuffle mats, so as in the Corgi Butt Snuffle Mat, we've got the bumblebee and the strawberry, as well as the avocado. You've got three of them. So, and these come with three different suction cups.
  5. 1:02 So these, obviously they won't work on the carpet, but these will work on flat surfaces without any gaps that allow air in. I've had people try and put these on wooden floorboards, which is fine, as long as these go on flat bits, not over the gaps between the wooden floorboards. So anyway, these have like a screw top cap.
  6. 1:21 You screw it down, and then with the mats, they've got elastic bands, and you just loop the elastic band over, put some water on the other side of that, maybe a little bit, twist this down, because the more you twist it down, it pulls up the bottom and increases, because there's a spring in there, increases the amount of suction. So each of these has three of these elastic loops to be able to hold it down.
  7. 1:45 Because a lot of dogs decide if you don't stick one of these mats down, a lot of dogs will pick them up and just shake them around and shake all the treats and food out and run away. So, well, not run away, they just eat it off the floor. Whereas you kind of want to make them spend their time like snuffling through the mat. That's the whole reason you're buying it, rather than having a bunch of food go underneath the fridge or tables or around, you know, under the couch and stuff.
  8. 2:11 So, why are these different from competitors? One, the cotton fabric and the stitching that I've used with all these, as well as the edge material, like all the fabric, and the design was all me working with a manufacturer. It's all really good material, like I've gotten to choose it all myself.
  9. 2:24 Whereas if you're buying stuff from Temu or things like that, which are much cheaper, obviously, you know, they are cheaper, but they may not last as long. I don't know. I'm not those manufacturers. I've just tried to make the best thing that I can possible.
  10. 2:37 And also, no one else at the moment, at the moment, I'm sure I'll get copied. You can take these off. So the face of each of the toys will come off. It's just Velcro and they all come with two squeakers inside.
  11. 2:51 If you're trying to entice your dog to use these mats or your dog's not like a big eater, you know, you want them to kind of do more and be stimulated more by the mat. You also get a toy involved. You stick that on. I have so many dogs just try and rip this off and run around and play with it.
  12. 3:07 But they know if the mat comes out, like all these mats stink now because I've used them for, you know, when a lot of model dogs come in, you know, they really like the mats. They really like the toys. They know when they get to this mat or somebody brings out this mat, it's going to be fun. And that's what you want it to be. Like you want it to be like, you know, they're getting food, they get play time. You know, it's a fun mat to have.
  13. 3:26 It's not just like, ‘Hey, I'm getting my standard kibble,’ or, ‘Hey, I'm getting my standard…’ Whatever food you feed, it's actually going to be like fun time. Even if you have a dog that's not a big eater, this can help them because it's like, you know, it's all fun and games.
  14. 3:39 This is the avocado design. You've got the strawberry design as well. Again, the face comes off. There's the squeaker and you just stick it back on. Same again. It's got the high quality cotton weave. It's got the same grippy mat on the back, same fabric. It's got three elastic edges for the suction cups.
  15. 3:57 Then you've got the bumblebee, which has the little wings. I like this one. This one's my favourite. So, and again, you can rip the face off or the dog can rip the face off. And then you've got a toy as well. And it goes back on. This one, yeah, again, three elastic bits on there.
  16. 4:12 And then there's the Corgi Butt Snuffle Mat. So, this is the shape of a corgi butt with a heart-shaped tail. I like this one as well because you've got a dog sniffing another dog's butt. I think it's funny. It's got a heart-shaped tail.
  17. 4:24 This one does come with two little paw squeakers as well down here. But because I've used this mat and so many dogs love the little paw squeakers, they always get stolen. The dogs just go racing for the squeaky toy kind of soft things and run around with them. None of them have been destroyed yet.
  18. 4:41 I'm sure a lot of dogs would destroy their squeaking mat because these are, you know, it's soft, it's fabric material and it's got some, you know, filter floss kind of foam in there, the flame retardant floss or fluff.
  19. 4:53 But the thing is like, you know, these are, this part is, you know, very tough and good quality. These are good quality, but they're, you know, obviously they're a soft toy. It's not as strong as the rest of the product. The reason being is, you know, it's nice and soft. Some dogs like to have that. You know, not every dog is going to be with everything. That's why we've got the different options on the website.
  20. 5:13 So you've got the Corgi Butt Snuffle Mat. Anyway, you can get our red snuffle balls. They match with the Strawberry Snuffle Mat. You can get the bumblebee snuffle balls. They match with the bumblebee. I probably could have put blue on there, like the wings, but I liked the blue for the wings. Then you've got, you can have green for the avocado. So you can get the green snuffle balls for that. They all match.
  21. 5:34 Now let's go across to the silicone ones. Oh, so you've got the silicone mat we've talked about before. You can get the grey and black snuffle mat, the snuffle balls to match with that. The purple one, it's harder to match this with the fleece fabric I've got at the moment. But anyway, if you want to get purple and purple, you can get the purple snuffle balls with the purple mat.
  22. 5:52 And then at the moment, we have the rainbow snuffle mat with the rainbow snuffle balls. These rainbow snuffle balls come without a crackle option. And then they also come with a crackle option, which I'll run through next. You know, it is a snuffle ball, but it's probably, it's a special type of snuffle ball. We'll have its own video.
  23. 6:12 Those suction snuffle mats don't come with these suction cups. These spare suction cups are only with the fabric snuffle mats because the silicone snuffle mats have suction cups on the bottom of all of them.
  24. 6:22 There's the snuffle range, apart from the rainbow snuffle ball with crackles. I had a couple of them out, but I think the dogs took them home. Anyway.

How it works

Why the Snuffle Mat works for bored, anxious and fast-eating dogs

Illustrated woman scattering kibble into the folds of an Avocado Snuffle Mat while a golden retriever sniffs it out

A meal that takes twenty minutes and a calmer dog at the end of it

Scatter a portion of kibble across the mat and rub it in, and the dog has to find every piece by nose, one fold at a time.

  • Slow feeding and mental workThat is slow feeding and mental work in the same ten minutes: less gulping, less air swallowed, and a dog that finishes calmer than it started.
  • All brain and no impactPuppies, seniors and dogs on rest after surgery get the most out of it, because it is all brain and no impact.
  • When to use itUse it before you leave the house, after an over-excited walk, during storms and visitors.

Pull the face off and food time becomes play time

Every design has a soft toy hiding in plain sight.

  • Velcro, with a squeaker insideThe avocado pit, the strawberry and bee faces, and the Corgi's heart tail and paws are attached with velcro and have a squeaker inside.
  • A game of fetch when the folds are emptyWhen the folds are empty, pull the toy off and the dog has a game of fetch or something to carry around while you hang the mat up.
  • Press it back onPress it back on and it is a snuffle mat again.
  • Washed separatelyIt also means the toy goes in the wash separately and the squeaker is easy to check.

Stays put, then goes in the wash

A snuffle mat that slides across the tiles teaches the dog to chase it instead of search it.

  • The rubberised baseThe rubberised base keeps this one where you put it, on floorboards, tiles or carpet, through a keen nose and the odd paw.
  • Machine wash it coldWhen it is done, shake out the crumbs and machine wash it cold; the fleece holds its shape and the folds stay full.
  • Four designs, all the same priceFour designs, all the same price, from 45 x 35 cm to 50 x 38 cm.

Three sizing rules

  • One size per design: Avocado 45 x 35 cm, Strawberry 50 x 38 cm, Corgi Butt 45 x 38 cm, Bumble Bee 45 x 45 cm. Big enough for a Labrador to work a full meal, small enough to roll up for travel.

  • Any dog, any age, and cats and rabbits too. Puppies, seniors and dogs on crate rest get the most out of it: full brain, no impact. Sprinkle food on top for a beginner, bury it for a dog that knows the game.

  • Not for fabric shredders. It is fleece, and the removable toys have squeakers inside. A dog that tears soft toys apart or eats squeakers needs a rubber treat toy such as the Chewster Blocky Bone, not a snuffle mat.

How to

How to use a snuffle mat

  • Illustrated woman dropping a few treats on top of an Avocado Snuffle Mat while a golden retriever sits and watches

    Start on top

First session, sprinkle a few smelly treats on top of the folds and let your dog watch you do it. The point is a quick win, not a puzzle.

  • Illustrated woman rubbing kibble down into the folds of an Avocado Snuffle Mat as a golden retriever sniffs along them

    Bury a meal

Once your dog gets the game, scatter the kibble and rub it down into the folds. Feed dinner this way if you like; most dogs are busy for 15 to 20 minutes.

  • Illustrated golden retriever trotting off with the face toy in its mouth while a woman holds up the empty Avocado Snuffle Mat

    Then the face comes off

When the folds are empty, pull the squeaky toy off the velcro for a game of fetch or a carry-around, and pick the mat up. Press the toy back on before the next meal.

  • Illustrated woman holding the face toy and raising a flat hand to a sitting golden retriever beside an Avocado Snuffle Mat

    Stay in the room

It is fleece, and the toys have squeakers inside. Watch the session, and take the toy away if sniffing turns into shredding.

  • Illustrated woman putting an Avocado Snuffle Mat into a washing machine, its face toy waiting in a laundry basket

    Wash it weekly

Toys off, crumbs out, cold gentle cycle, air dry. A mat that smells of old kibble is a mat that gets chewed.

Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, BVSc

This is a foraging toy, not a chew toy. The mat is fleece and the removable toys are soft toys with a squeaker inside, and a swallowed squeaker is a foreign body I take out surgically. Supervise every session, take the toys away from a dog that de-stuffs soft toys, and retire any piece once the fabric tears or a squeaker shows through. Whatever goes on the mat comes out of the day's food allowance. In a multi-dog home, one dog at a time in a separate room: a food puzzle is exactly the kind of thing dogs guard from each other.

Why I designed it

A dog thinks with its nose. This mat turns dinner into the puzzle, and the leftover into a toy.

The dogs I see at 2 am for a bolted dinner that came straight back up, or a shredded couch after a day alone, mostly have the same thing missing: nothing to do with their nose.

  • Ten minutes of real sniffingTen minutes of real sniffing tires a dog in a way another lap of the block does not, and a snuffle mat is the easiest way to give them that every single day, because the food they were getting anyway becomes the game.
  • Deep folds, and a base on rubberI made the folds deep so the kibble has to be found, and I put the base on rubber so the mat does not travel across the floorboards.
  • The face comes offThen the part I am most pleased with: the face comes off. It is held on with velcro and it squeaks, so when the folds are empty the dog has a soft toy to carry around and you can hang the mat up clean.
  • One honest lineOne honest line, as always: it is fleece with squeakers in the toys, not rubber. A dog that shreds soft toys needs a Chewster, not this.

How does the removable toy work?

Every design has a soft toy attached with velcro: the avocado pit, the strawberry and bee faces, and the Corgi's heart tail and two paws. Each has a squeaker inside. Pull it off when the folds are empty and the dog has a squeaky toy to carry or fetch; press it back on before the next meal. It also comes off for washing. It is a soft toy, so a dog that de-stuffs toys or eats squeakers gets supervised play only.

Will it slow down a fast eater?

Yes, and that is the everyday use. Scatter the meal across the mat and rub it into the folds instead of using a bowl. A 30-second gulp becomes 15 to 20 minutes of searching, with less air swallowed and less coming back up. Rub the kibble in deeper as your dog gets better at it.

Is a snuffle mat good for anxious dogs?

Sniffing is the fastest way I know to bring a dog's arousal down, which is why the mat works before you leave the house, during storms and fireworks, and after an over-excited walk. It is a tool, not a treatment: a dog with true separation anxiety needs a plan from a vet or a behaviourist, and the mat becomes one part of it.

    Which design should I choose?

They work the same way; they differ in size and in the toy. Avocado (45 x 35 cm) and Strawberry (50 x 38 cm) have one squeaky face. Bumble Bee (45 x 45 cm) is the biggest surface and the heaviest, with one squeaky face. Corgi Butt (45 x 38 cm) has three removable pieces, the heart tail and two paws, so it suits a dog that likes carrying things. For a big dog eating a full meal, Bumble Bee or Strawberry; for travel, Avocado.

Can cats, rabbits and small pets use it?

Yes. Cats usually prefer a few pieces sitting on top rather than buried, and rabbits and guinea pigs forage well on the flat folds. Supervise, and take the toy off for cats and small pets; it is sized for a dog. For a cat-specific enrichment range, see PURRZ™.

    How do I wash it?

Pull the toys off, shake out the crumbs, machine wash the mat cold on a gentle cycle and air dry it flat. Wash the toys by hand or in a laundry bag. Weekly if it is used daily, and always after anything wet gets near it.

Can I leave my dog alone with it?

No. It is fleece with squeakers in the toys. Watch the session, take the toys away when the food is gone if your dog is a shredder, and give a fabric destroyer a rubber toy such as the Chewster Blocky Bone instead.

What if it arrives damaged, or my dog destroys it?

Damaged on arrival or faulty: email hello@woopf.com with a photo and your order number as soon as you notice, and it is covered. Shredded by an enthusiastic dog: that is the wrong toy for that dog, and the Chewster Blocky Bone is the right one.
