How it works

Watch a cat or a small dog settle and most of them do the same thing: back into something, put the chin on an edge, and stretch the legs out along a straight side. A donut gives them the edge and no straight side; a flat mat gives them the length and nothing to lean on.

The fur is the Furry Range fur, the long plush pile from the Furry Range Round Bed and the puppy pouch, inside the nest and over the rim, so the pet is on fur whichever way it lies, and fur on every surface keeps its own heat in, self-warming in the plain sense, which suits a cat, a thin-coated dog and a cold floor.

Three things to know before you buy.
Size guide
Cats, and dogs to about 7 kgto 15 lb; 10 kg / 22 lb if curled · 70 x 55 x 12 cm / 28 x 22 x 5 in
Measure the pet curled up, nose to the base of the tail: under about 45 cm fits half-curled against the rim, with room to turn. A pet that sleeps stretched out wants a longer bed, not this one. Two toy dogs that sleep together fit side by side, as in the photographs. A bigger dog wants the Furry Curves Rectangle Bed, the same shape in three sizes to 95 cm; a pet that sleeps in a tight ball and likes to hide wants the Furry Range Round Bed, the same fur as a deep round nest.
Weight, as a guide: cats and dogs to about 7 kg, and up to about 10 kg, a Maine Coon say, for a pet that sleeps curled. That is the designer's guide, not a published limit. A dog past 10 kg, or any dog with stiff hips, wants published memory foam under it: the SNÜZ Vet Orthopedic Bed or the SNÖR Vet Orthopedic Bed.
This is the bed for the bedroom floor, the end of a bed, the couch, a crate tray or a hard floor: little rubber dots underneath take hold on wood or any flat surface over time, as the pet's weight presses them down, not straight away and not a suction-cup grip, and they do nothing on carpet or a rug. For the first days on tiles or floorboards put it in a corner or against a wall; in a crate the low rim spends little floor, and the 70 x 55 footprint lies flat on a 36 inch tray (about 91 x 58 cm) and rides up the sides of a 30.

How to

Curled up, nose to tail base, under 45 cm fits against the rim: about 7 kg as a guide, or about 10 kg for a pet that always sleeps curled. A pet that sleeps stretched out, or a bigger dog, wants the Furry Curves Rectangle Bed in a bigger size, not a squeeze.

Beside the couch, by your side of the bed, in the cat's sunny corner, on a crate tray. The rubber dots underneath take hold on wood or tiles over time as the pet's weight presses them, not straight away and not on carpet, so for the first days on a hard floor put it in a corner or against a wall.

Circling, kneading the cushion and pushing the nose into the rim is the bed being used properly. Plump the rim on wash day, not every morning.

A slicker brush or a rubber glove lifts the hair and stands the pile back up. Take the foam out, unzip the cover, and the cover alone goes in the machine: cold, 30 degrees or less, low spin, air dry, brush again; weekly for a pet with itchy skin, the same day after an accident. The foam stays out of the machine, and so does the bolster rim: hand wash it and dry it in the sun.

If the dog is stiff after a sleep, slow to rise or reluctant to step over even this rim, or the cat has stopped using a bed it liked, the bed is not the fix: see your vet, and for a dog move to published memory foam (the SNÜZ or the SNÖR).
Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, BVSc
A bed is comfort, not treatment. A fur nest with a memory foam insert keeps a healthy pet warm, off a hard floor and on a flat surface; it is a standard memory foam with no published thickness or density, not the SNÜZ's, so buy this bed for the fur, the rim and the size, not for a joint. A dog that is stiff after rest, slow to rise, reluctant to jump or use stairs, licking at one joint or limping for more than a day or two needs a veterinary examination and, usually, published memory foam under it. A cat that stops using a bed it liked, or starts sleeping somewhere odd, is telling you something: pain, illness and stress all change where a cat sleeps, and that is a vet visit, not a new bed. A pet that panics when left, in a crate or in a car has a fear that a familiar bed can make a little easier and cannot fix; that is training, sometimes medication, and a conversation with your vet. Heat: fur on every surface is warm in a hot room or a car for a flat-faced dog, an overweight dog or an old one; put it in a cool room in summer, and never leave any pet in a parked car, bed or no bed. Chewers: a dog that opens the zip or a seam and eats foam can block a gut, so check the cover weekly and supervise a young dog with any foam bed. Accidents: foam out, cover off and washed the same day; if urine has reached the foam, air it fully before it goes back in. The floor: the rubber dots underneath take hold on wood or tiles over time, not straight away, and a bed that skates when an old dog steps into it is a bed that trips an old dog; until they have bedded in, keep it against a wall. A rim is not a barrier: a kitten or a puppy climbs out of it, and it is not a pen.

Why I designed it
Most cats and most small dogs sleep neither in a ball nor flat out. They half-curl: back against something, chin on an edge, legs out along a straight side. A donut gives them the edge and takes away the straight side; a flat mat gives them the length and nothing to lean on.

Our dog likes resting her head against something while she sleeps, and the raised edges on this bed are perfect for that. The plush velvet feel has made it her favourite spot instantly.
Our small dog used to circle and resettle constantly before this bed. The raised sides create a secure boundary that's noticeably calmed her nighttime fidgeting.

FAQ
One size, 70 x 55 x 12 cm outside. Measure the pet curled up, nose to the base of the tail: under about 45 cm fits half-curled against the rim with room to turn, which as a guide is a cat or a dog to about 7 kg, a Pomeranian, a Cavalier, a Cavoodle. A pet that always sleeps curled can go to about 10 kg, a Maine Coon or a 10 kg dog, but a pet that sleeps stretched out wants a longer bed; this is not the bed for it. Two toy dogs fit side by side, as in the photographs. A bigger dog wants the Furry Curves Rectangle Bed, the same shape in the bumps fur in three sizes to 95 cm, and a dog that needs a bed for stiff hips wants the SNÜZ Vet Orthopedic Bed.
Yes and no. There is a memory foam insert under the fur, which is why the floor of the nest stays flat, and it lifts out of the centre; it is a standard memory foam, less dense than the lavender memory foam in the SNÜZ, and nothing published gives its thickness or density, so this page does not call the bed orthopedic. Buy it as a fur nest with a memory foam floor for a healthy pet, and buy a dog with stiff hips, a dog after surgery or an old dog the SNÜZ Vet Orthopedic Bed or the SNÖR Vet Orthopedic Bed, whose memory foam is published.
Same idea, three answers. A pet that sleeps in a tight ball and likes to hide wants the Furry Range Round Bed, this fur as a deep round nest with 27 cm walls. A pet that half-curls, back against something and legs out along a straight side, wants a low-rimmed rectangle: this one in the long fur at 70 x 55, or the Furry Curves Rectangle Bed in the bumps fur if you want a size, from 55 cm to 95. A dog that sleeps flat out on its side wants a mat, not this bed, and the Furry Corduroy Sleeping Mat has a grip base of its own for a hard floor. If you have never watched, watch tonight.
Yes, and one of the better ones in the range for a cat: a low rim a cat can see over, long fur to knead, a rectangle that fits a windowsill ledge or the corner of a couch, and a foam floor that holds the cat's own warmth. Put it where the cat already sleeps rather than where you would like it to, leave it a week, and do not wash the new-bed smell out of it before the cat has claimed it. A cat that will not use a bed is usually a placement problem, not a bed problem.
In one specific way: a familiar fur nest that smells of home makes a strange room, a holiday rental or a night at a friend's easier, and that is real. It is not a treatment. A dog that panics when left, or in a crate or a car, panting, drooling, pacing, scratching to get out, has a fear that needs training, sometimes medication, and a vet; a softer bed will not fix it.
Less and less. There are little rubber dots on the base; they do not grip straight away, and on carpet or other fluffy surfaces they do nothing, but on floorboards, tiles or any flat surface they take hold over time as the pet's weight presses them down: not a suction-cup grip, just enough to keep the bed in the same place. For the first days on a hard floor a corner or a wall behind it does the job. It does fit a crate, and the low rim spends little floor: 70 x 55 cm lies flat on a 36 inch tray (about 91 x 58 cm) and rides up the sides of a 30; the foam insert stops it bunching the way a fibre pad does. Measure the tray either way.
Take the foam out, unzip the cover and machine wash the cover alone, cold, 30 degrees or less, on a low spin, no softener. Air drying the cover out of the sun is kinder to a long fur, and brush the pile back up afterwards. No iron: heat mats faux fur for good. The bolster rim is filter floss and never goes in the machine: hand wash it and put it out in the sun to dry. The foam stays out of the machine too: air it, and if an accident has reached it, air it fully before it goes back in. Yes, a long fur holds hair: a slicker brush or a rubber glove once a week lifts it; the Brown, which is a light mocha, hides tan hair.
Damaged on arrival or faulty: email hello@woopf.com with a photo and your order number as soon as you notice, and it is covered. Change of mind and it is unused in its packaging: email within 14 days and we will consider a return. A bed a dog has slept on cannot come back for hygiene reasons, so measure your pet curled up before you order.
