- 0:05 Good day. I'm Dr. Duncan Houston, and this is my fake living room.
- 0:12 All right, so what have I got here? This is the Explorer collar. Literally, this is just a dog collar.
- 0:16 It is expandable. It does have very high-quality, really strong webbing.
- 0:21 It is quite comfortable, very soft material, but again, you know, it's an adjustable collar.
- 0:28 You've got a D-ring here, which is made of like a lightweight alloy, and the color I've chosen is a brushed or a matte-finished gunmetal.
- 0:34 You've got a logo, but this little, you've got like a little D-ring on there. That's to hang a tag on.
- 0:41 Do not hang your tag on the big D-ring because that's where you attach your lead or leashes, whatever you want to call them, and over time that will potentially break the ring.
- 0:50 All of my tags will fit onto this little plastic D-ring here.
- 0:54 And yeah, pretty much that's the collar.
- 0:58 Anyway, you've got all the rainbow: gray, green, pink, purple, red, blue, orange, yellow. We have all the colors here.
- 1:06 You can match these with your harnesses. You can match them with your leads. You can match them with your treat or training pouches.
- 1:11 And I have waterproof as well as fabric ones. So, this is water-resistant; it's not waterproof.
- 1:17 Anyway, that's the Explorer collar.

How it works
Why the Explorer Collar is the collar a vet puts on his own dogs

Two rings, because the tag and the lead should never share one
Most collars hang the ID tag and the lead off the same D-ring, so the tag gets crushed under the clip, wears through in a year, and jangles against the lead all walk.
- Lead D-ring and tag ringTwo rings: the lead on one, the Smart ID Tag on the other, so the tag is never crushed under the clip.
- Readable and quietThe Smart ID Tag or your council tag sits on its own, and the lead D-ring is free for a calm dog's walk.
- The pairing the whole range is built aroundIf your dog is not a calm walker yet, the lead goes on the Explorer Harness and the collar carries the ID.

Seen in headlights, off in a second
The 3M reflective stitching runs the length of the webbing, so the collar throws light back from every angle, not just the side facing the road.
- 3M reflective stitch lineThe collar is the one thing your dog wears on every walk, so it is the one that should catch headlights.
- Quick-release buckleOn in a second, open in a second with one hand if the collar ever snags.
- The buckle is what gets it offA collar snagged on a crate bar, a fence wire or another dog's lower jaw during rough play is a strangulation emergency.
- Fitted to two fingers flatThe same buckle and the reinforced webbing hold through the hard lunge at a cat.

Three sizes by neck, eight colours by taste
Measure the neck where the collar sits and go up if you are between sizes.
- Small is 27 to 37 cm of neckIn 2 cm webbing at 50 g, light enough that a cavalier or a dachshund forgets it is on.
- Medium is 32 to 47 cm and Large 41 to 64 cmBoth in 2.5 cm webbing, for the kelpies through to the shepherds and Rottweilers.
- Breathable high-strength nylonWater-resistant, so it copes with rain, the beach and the hose.
- Eight coloursThey match the Explorer Harness, the Bungee Leash and the Dual Pocket Pouch.

Three sizing rules
-
Measure the neck with a soft tape where the collar naturally sits, low on the neck, snug but not tight. Small 27 to 37 cm, Medium 32 to 47 cm, Large 41 to 64 cm. The dog-weight bands are a guide; the tape decides.
-
Between two sizes, go up. A collar at the very end of its adjustment has no room for a winter coat or a growing puppy, and a Small on a 37 cm neck is a Medium waiting to happen.
-
Fit check: two fingers flat under the collar, no more. Re-check a puppy every two weeks and every dog when the coat changes. A dog whose head is narrower than its neck (greyhound, whippet, some collies) can back out of any flat collar and walks on the harness.

How to
How to fit a dog collar

Measure, then buy
Soft tape around the neck where the collar sits, snug. Use the size table; between sizes, go up.

Fit to two fingers
Clip it on, slide the adjuster until two fingers slide flat under the webbing and no more. Looser than that and a dog backs out; tighter and it rubs and coughs.

Tag on the tag ring, lead on the D-ring
The Smart ID Tag goes on the separate ring. The lead clips to the D-ring on a calm walker; a dog that pulls walks on the Explorer Harness and keeps the collar for ID.

Off in the crate and in the wrestle
Take the collar off for unsupervised crate time and when two dogs play rough. Jaws and crate bars catch collars; the quick-release buckle is for the moment you did not.

Check monthly
Webbing at the buckle, stitching at the rings, the buckle's click. Puppies get re-measured every two weeks. Retire it when the webbing frays or the buckle no longer snaps clean.
Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, emergency veterinarian
A collar is for identification and, on a calm walker, the lead. A dog that pulls hard should walk on a harness: repeated pressure on the throat damages the windpipe, raises pressure inside the eyes, and in small and flat-faced breeds can worsen a collapsing trachea. Fit to two fingers flat. Take the collar off for unsupervised crate time and during rough play between dogs; a jaw or a crate bar caught in a collar is a strangulation emergency, and the quick-release buckle is for the human who arrives in time. Never attach a tie-out or a long line to a collar, and never leave a check chain or a slip lead on an unattended dog.

Why I designed it
A collar has two jobs: carry the ID and be seen. Pulling is not one of them.
I have said on the harness page that the dog who pulls for years into a collar ends up in my consult room with a sore throat, a cough, and in small breeds a windpipe that starts to collapse. So I want to be straight about what this collar is for.
- It carries the IDA separate ring for the Smart ID Tag, so the tag is not grinding against the lead clip all day, and a D-ring for the lead on a dog that walks calmly.
- It gets your dog seen3M reflective stitching down the webbing, because the collar is the one thing they wear on every walk, including the dark ones.
- It comes off in a secondA quick-release buckle, because a collar caught on a crate bar or in another dog's jaw during a wrestle is a real emergency and I have seen it.
- Fit it to two fingers flatTake it off in the crate and when two dogs play rough.
- If your dog pullsIf your dog pulls, clip the lead to the Explorer Harness and let the collar do its two jobs.
- Eight colours because it lives on your dogBridie and Kiko tested every version.

I have three colours now and they wash easily and have never broken. They match the leashes and fit tracking devices if I chose. They feel more durable and built to last than others on the market.
April 2026 I was looking for a collar lightweight enough for my small breed that wouldn't drag her head down but durable enough to last. The Explorer Collar hits that balance perfectly — my dog barely notices she's wearing it, but the construction feels genuinely solid. The purple is beautiful against her fur and it's held its colour through regular washing. The quick-release buckle gives me confidence that if she ever got snagged on something, I could get her free instantly.
April 2026 The quick-release buckle is excellent: firm enough not to release accidentally but easy to operate with one hand in any situation. The tag ring hasn't bent or misshapen despite carrying two tags for six months. The fit is consistently comfortable with the adjustable sizing and the breathable material hasn't caused any rubbing.

Is this a no-pull collar?
No, and no flat collar is. A collar cannot redirect a pull the way a front-clip harness does; it can only take the force on the throat. If your dog pulls, walk them on the Explorer Harness with the lead on the front D-ring and keep this collar on for the ID tag and the reflective stitching. Once loose-lead walking is reliable, the lead can move to the collar's D-ring for calm walks.
Which size should I buy?
Measure the neck with a soft tape where the collar sits, snug but not tight. Small is 27 to 37 cm (about 4 to 10 kg: cavaliers, dachshunds, cavoodles), Medium 32 to 47 cm (about 10 to 25 kg: kelpies, collies, staffies), Large 41 to 64 cm (25 kg and up: goldens, Labradors, shepherds). The ranges overlap on purpose; between sizes, go up, so the collar is not at the end of its adjustment with a winter coat or a growing puppy still to come.
How tight should a dog collar be?
Two fingers flat between the collar and the neck, no more and no less. Looser and a dog can back out of it, especially one with a head narrower than its neck; tighter and it rubs, coughs and, in a growing puppy, becomes dangerous within weeks. Re-check a puppy every two weeks and any dog when the coat changes.
Can my dog wear it all the time?
During the day, yes: it is light (50 to 80 g), breathable and water-resistant. Take it off for unsupervised time in a crate and when two dogs play rough. A collar caught on a crate bar or in another dog's jaw is a strangulation emergency I have treated; the quick-release buckle helps if you are there, and taking it off means you do not need to be.
Does the tag ring fit the Smart ID Tag?
Yes, that is what it is for. The Smart ID Tag clips to the separate tag ring, so it stays readable and off the lead D-ring, where tags get crushed under the clip and wear through. Council tags and a GPS tracker's clip fit the same ring.
Is it waterproof?
Water-resistant: it copes with rain, the beach and the hose, dries quickly and rinses clean. It is nylon, so a dog that swims daily or rolls in mud every walk is better off in the Sealskin Collar, which is waterproof biothane and wipes clean without ever smelling.
Can a puppy wear it?
Yes, from the Small band at about 27 cm of neck. Fit it to two fingers, re-measure every two weeks, and expect to move up a size during the first year. A puppy learns to walk on the harness; the collar carries the tag.
What if it arrives damaged or the size is wrong?
Email hello@woopf.com as soon as you notice, with a photo and your order number. Faulty, damaged or incorrect items are fully covered and we pay the return shipping when the error is ours. Wrong size and unused in its packaging? Email within 14 days and we will look at a swap.
