  1. 0:05 Good day. I'm Dr. Duncan Houston and this is my fake living room.
  2. 0:12 This is the Sealskin Harness and I'm going to teach you guys how to put it on so you put it on correctly. I have had multiple people already put this on incorrectly, so I may have to adjust the next design. Anyway, if I teach you guys how to do it, I can tell you why I've designed it this way and we can teach more people.
  3. 0:30 This is made out of the same material as the collars, so it's waterproof material. It's really nice fabric. It's actually like quite kind of smooth and velvety in your hand. It's like a matte finish. It's really easy to keep clean and yeah, I would say it's super durable and it's really strong.
  4. 0:46 So, how do you put this on? So, look, there'll be one circle. So, if you have the whole thing opened and, you know, hanging around, there'll be one loop hole, one area of this that has like a complete loop. Nowhere else will have a complete loop. So, you'll have one small loop and it's got two adjustable kind of, I don't know, rings there. Anyway, and you'll have a circle ring.
  5. 1:04 This one circle ring is on the chest. So, there is only one ring in this whole harness that is a circle. That part goes on the chest. And then there's a square logo, that bit goes on the top. So, circle on the chest, logo on top. And then the circle, like this circle at the front, so pretty much that goes over the head, and then this circle I was talking about is on the chest and this logo goes on top.
  6. 1:28 Now, this bit with this loop, it goes underneath and around the chest. But what I've done here is that you have this dingly bit at the front that goes under, and what you do is you slide this clip through that circle and it comes out the other side.
  7. 1:46 So, the reason I did that is I generally leave this loop in. So when I take it off my dogs, I just lift up their left leg. It means that I've only got one clip to do. So if I'm in a rush or if they're swimming or whatever, I've only got one clip there, which is one fail point.
  8. 2:03 So, the reason why I only want one fail point is, you know, sand and crap and stuff gets stuck in these buckles and sometimes it can, you know, cause the buckle to not work so well. So, I want to make sure that there's only one point of failure in this whole harness if I'm using it. So like, even if that breaks or whatever, this side everything will still hold on. But that's why I designed it with just one on one side.
  9. 2:26 So maybe the next one, because so many people have put these on incorrectly, I'll probably put two buckles there. But at the moment, that's the reason why it has one buckle.
  10. 2:34 You have these lightweight alloy D-rings. They're in brushed gunmetal. You have one at the back if that's what you want to be able to, you know, you want the dog to be able to pull it back. You have this top one up here. It does put more pressure on the neck, but some people prefer to have that up there so it acts more like a collar. And then you've got one D-ring at the chest down the front here if that's your no-pull option.
  11. 2:55 You do also have like a bit of a loop here. The reason why we left that loop in there is you might want to attach like a light or, like, I've got my GPS tracker. I can put my GPS tracker here, I can put my GPS tracker here. You know, it does give me that kind of option to be able to put it there.
  12. 3:11 Each point is adjustable. So, the neck is adjustable both sides, this chest part is adjustable, and this, you know, chest strap down here. That's how I put this harness on and that's how it works for me.
  13. 3:22 So, you've got a bunch of different colors: so, you've got glow-in-the-dark, you've got purple, you've got orange, you've got yellow, you've got gray, you've got pink, hot pink, you've got green or lime green, and you've got blue. So many colors. Perfect. Max is ready to go for a walk.

How it works

Why the Sealskin Harness works for dogs that get wet

A man wiping mud off a purple Sealskin Harness with a cloth, a golden retriever sitting beside him

Waterproof, wipe-clean, and no smell to bring home

Every strap is coated webbing.

  • Nothing soaks inWater, mud and salt sit on the surface instead of soaking in.
  • Rinse, wipe, hang it upAfter the beach, rinse it under the tap, wipe it with a cloth and hang it up.
  • Dry in minutes, no smellIt is dry in minutes and it smells of nothing.
  • Nothing that stays dampThere is no mesh, no padding and no stitching that stays damp.
A man walking a golden retriever in a purple Sealskin Harness, the lead clipped to the D-ring on its chest

Front clip for the pull, back clip for the cruise

Clip the lead to the front D-ring on the chest and a lunge becomes a turn back toward you, with the force on the chest instead of the throat.

  • Back D-ring for the walk homeClip to the back D-ring once the pulling has stopped, or for the calm walk home.
  • Same layout as the Explorer HarnessIt is the same two-point layout as the Explorer Harness, so the training you have done carries over.
  • Not a trainer on its ownA no-pull harness reduces pulling by redirecting it. It does not train your dog on its own, so pair the front clip with reward-based loose-lead work.
A man kneeling to adjust the neck strap of a purple Sealskin Harness on a golden retriever

Adjust it once, and it stays on the dog

Adjustment at the neck and the chest lets you set it snug to the dog rather than roughly to the size.

  • Low behind the elbowsThe strap layout sits low behind the elbows where a wriggler cannot back out of it.
  • Two fingers on day oneSet it to two fingers under every strap on day one and it stays there.
  • No stretch when wetCoated webbing does not stretch when it is wet the way fabric does.

Three sizing rules

  • Measure the chest first: the widest point just behind the front legs. Then the neck, low down where a collar would sit. Weight is a guide only.

  • Between two sizes, go up. A harness at the tight end of its range rubs behind the elbows; at the loose end it slips. The ranges overlap on purpose; the chest measurement decides.

  • Fit check: two fingers flat under every strap, and the front D-ring sitting on the breastbone, not the throat. Check behind the elbows after the first wet walk.

How to

How to fit a waterproof dog harness

  • A man kneeling to measure a golden retriever's neck with a tape, a purple Sealskin Harness on the floor beside him

    Measure before you buy

Chest at the widest point behind the front legs, neck where a collar sits. Pick the size whose chest range holds the number with room either side.

  • A man kneeling to slip the neck loop of a purple Sealskin Harness over a golden retriever's head

Loosen everything, then put it on

Open every adjuster, neck loop over the head, buckle the girth behind the elbows.

  • A man kneeling to adjust the straps of a purple Sealskin Harness on a golden retriever

    Tighten to two fingers

Neck first, then chest. Two fingers flat under each strap, front D-ring on the breastbone.

  • A man holding a treat for a golden retriever, the lead clipped to the D-ring on the chest of its purple Sealskin Harness

Clip front for training, back for cruising

Front D-ring while your dog is learning not to pull; back D-ring once they walk on a loose lead.

  • A man kneeling to check the skin behind a golden retriever's elbow, the purple Sealskin Harness off on the floor beside him

Rinse it, and check the skin

After salt water, rinse the harness and the dog. Take it off at home, dry the coat under the straps, and look behind the elbows for redness or a smell.

Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, emergency veterinarian

A no-pull harness reduces pulling by redirecting it. It does not train your dog on its own, so pair the front clip with reward-based loose-lead work. Never let a dog that pulls hard walk on a collar alone: repeated pressure on the throat can damage the windpipe and raises pressure inside the eyes. A waterproof harness still comes off at home: rinse the salt off, dry the coat under the straps, and check behind the elbows and in the armpits for redness, heat or a smell, which is how a skin infection starts. Retire it once the webbing cracks or a buckle stops clicking.

Why I designed it

A wet harness that stays on is a skin infection waiting to happen.

A lot of the summer skin cases I see start under something that never dried: a collar, a harness, a coat. Fabric harnesses soak up the sea and the creek, hold it against the skin behind the elbows, and grow smell and bacteria while the dog sleeps in them.

  • It absorbs nothingThe Sealskin is coated webbing, so it absorbs nothing.
  • Rinse it, wipe itRinse it, wipe it, and it is dry before you have towelled the dog.
  • No padding on purposeIt keeps the front and back D-rings and the size chart of the Explorer Harness for the no-pull walk, and it has no padding on purpose, because padding is what holds the water.
  • Tested at homeBridie and Kiko tested every version, mostly wet.
  • It is a strap harnessOne honest line: it is a strap harness. A heavy puller still learning, or a dog with thin skin behind the elbows, will do better in the padded Explorer, and I would rather say that here than see the rub in the clinic.

Waterproof harness questions, answered by a vet

    Delivery
Typically 5 to 8 business days after dispatch. International orders may attract duties.
    Returns
Faulty, damaged, incorrect or missing: tell us as soon as you notice and we replace, repair or refund, and cover the return postage. Change of mind or sizing: considered within 14 days on unused items in their original packaging. Email hello@woopf.com to begin.
    Is it really waterproof?

The straps are coated webbing, so water, mud and salt sit on the surface and rinse off; nothing soaks in and nothing holds a smell. The buckles and D-rings are the only other parts, and they rinse too. What it is not is a dry suit for the dog: the coat under the straps still gets wet, so take the harness off at home and dry the dog.

    Which size should I buy?

Measure the chest at the widest point behind the front legs and pick the size whose range holds it with room to spare: Small 50 to 78 cm, Medium 52 to 81 cm, Large 60 to 93 cm. The ranges overlap on purpose. Between sizes, go up. Over 93 cm there is no Sealskin size yet.

    Does it stop pulling?

The front D-ring redirects a pull into a turn, which takes most of the force out of it and all of it off the throat. It does not train the dog by itself; pair the front clip with loose-lead work and treats, then move to the back D-ring once the pulling stops. A heavy puller still learning is more comfortable in the padded Explorer Harness.

Can my dog escape from it?

A harness that fits cannot be backed out of: neck snug, girth snug behind the elbows, two fingers under each strap. Most escapes are a harness set to the size rather than to the dog. Check the fit after the first swim; coated webbing does not stretch when wet, but the adjusters can slip if they were not set firmly.

    Is there a handle?

No. It is a strap harness with front and back D-rings and no top handle, which is part of why it dries so fast. If you want a handle for kerbs, car doors and the vet table, the Explorer Harness has a padded one.

    Can a puppy wear it?

Yes, from the day they can walk on a lead, in the size their chest measures now, and expect to buy the next size within months. Check the fit weekly on a growing dog; a harness outgrown by a centimetre rubs behind the elbows.

    How do I clean it?

Rinse it under the tap after salt water or mud, wipe it with a damp cloth and hang it to dry. It takes a minute and it never needs the washing machine. If it smells, the smell is on the dog, not the harness.

What if it arrives damaged or the size is wrong?

Email hello@woopf.com as soon as you notice, with a photo and your order number. Faulty, damaged or incorrect items are fully covered and we pay the return shipping when the error is ours. Wrong size and unused in its packaging? Email within 14 days and we will look at a swap.
