The fur sofa a dog walks into: fat Furry Curves bolsters on three sides to lean on and a low front so there is nothing to jump, for arthritic, weak-legged and old dogs, puppies and cats as much as the Dachshund, in one size that takes a Cavalier curled, a dachshund stretched out or two small dogs side by side. Memory foam centre, removable washable cover, Cream or White.

How it works

Watch a small dog settle and most of them do two things: back into something, and prop the head. A bolster at chin height is what the head goes on, and a wall at the back is what the spine goes against. This sofa gives them both on three sides and drops the fourth to a low fur roll, so the dog walks in over it, circles, and drops, and walks out the same way. That matters most for the dogs and cats that cannot manage a four-walled bed, and for the dogs a vet would rather not see jumping: arthritic dogs, dogs with weak back legs or hind-limb paralysis, very weak dogs, the long backs (Dachshunds, Corgis, Bassets), the short legs and flat faces (Frenchies, Pugs), old small dogs, and puppies whose growth plates are still open and who cannot always climb into a bigger bed; the walls still give them the feeling of comfort. It is also the bed for a cat that likes walls and hates a lid. In every photograph the dogs are two miniature dachshunds, which is the right pair: it takes both of them side by side.

The fur is the Furry Curves fur: a long faux fur that lies in soft rounded bumps, over the bolsters and across the cushion, so the dog is on fur whichever way it lies, and fur on every surface keeps its own heat in, self-warming in the plain sense. One size, 90 x 60 x 23 cm outside. Inside the bolsters that is room for a small or medium dog curled, which is a dog under about 50 cm nose to tail curled and about 15 kg at the top, a Cavalier, a Cavoodle, a Frenchie, a Corgi; or a small dog stretched flat along the back bolster, under about 65 cm; or two small dogs side by side. A bigger dog that sleeps flat out wants the Furry Curves Sleeping Mat, and a dog that sleeps in a tight ball is happier in the Furry Curves Round Bed, the same fur as a donut.

Three things to know before you buy. First, the foam: there is a memory foam insert in the centre, with soft bolster material round the outside, and nothing published gives its thickness or density; this page does not call the bed orthopedic. The open front is the point for a stiff, arthritic or weak-legged dog, and a dog that needs firm support under it wants the SNÜZ Vet Orthopedic Bed or the SNÖR Vet Orthopedic Bed, whose memory foam is published; the SNÖR has a low front of its own. Second, the base: grippy rubber dots underneath take hold on tiles and wooden floors over time, as the dog's weight presses them onto the smooth surface, not straight away and not a suction-cup grip, so for the first days put it against a wall; on carpet or fabric they do not really grip, and there they are not needed. The Furry Corduroy Open Front Rectangle Bed is the same idea in corduroy, in three smaller sizes. Third, calming: a bolster at the back makes a nervous dog feel safer, which is real, and it is not a treatment for a dog that panics.

Measure the dog curled up, nose to the base of the tail: under about 50 cm fits curled against a bolster, with room to turn. Stretched flat along the back bolster, under about 65 cm fits. Two small dogs that sleep together fit side by side, as in the photographs. A bigger dog that sleeps flat out wants the Furry Curves Sleeping Mat; a tight curler wants the Furry Curves Round Bed.
Weight, as a guide: cats and dogs to about 15 kg. That is a guide from the outer size with the bolsters allowed for, not a published limit. The memory foam in the centre has no published thickness or density, so a dog past 15 kg, or one that needs firm support under stiff hips, wants published memory foam: the SNÜZ Vet Orthopedic Bed or the SNÖR Vet Orthopedic Bed.
This is the sofa for the bedroom floor, the end of a bed, a carpeted room or a hard floor: grippy rubber dots underneath take hold on tiles and wooden floors over time, as the dog's weight presses them onto the smooth surface, not straight away and not a suction-cup grip, and on carpet or fabric they do not really grip. For the first days on tiles or floorboards put it against a wall. The Furry Corduroy Open Front Rectangle Bed is the same idea in three smaller sizes.

How to

Curled up, nose to tail base, under 50 cm fits against a bolster; stretched flat along the back, under 65 cm fits. A bigger sprawler wants the flat mat, not a bigger sofa.

Front to the room, back to the wall or the couch, on carpet or a hard floor. The rubber dots underneath take hold on tiles or wood over time as the dog's weight presses them, not straight away and not on carpet, so for the first days on tiles a wall behind it does the job.

Circling, kneading the cushion and pushing the nose into a bolster is the bed being used properly. Plump the bolsters on wash day, not every morning.

A slicker brush or a rubber glove lifts the hair and stands the pile back up. Unzip the bottom, take all the foam out, cover off, cold wash, gentle cycle, air dry, brush again; weekly for a dog with itchy skin, the same day after an accident.

The open front is the point for a stiff, arthritic or weak-legged dog, so a dog newly slow to rise or hesitating at even this front is a vet question, not a bed one: see your vet, and for firm support move to published memory foam (the SNÜZ, or the SNÖR, which has a low front too).
Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, BVSc
A bed is comfort, not treatment. A lowered front takes one small jump out of a dog's day, which is worth having for an arthritic dog, a dog with weak back legs, a long-backed or an old dog and a puppy, and is not a therapy; the memory foam in the centre has no published thickness or density, so buy this sofa for the bolsters, the fur and the front, not for a joint. A dog that is stiff after rest, slow to rise, reluctant to jump or use stairs, licking at one joint or limping for more than a day or two needs a veterinary examination first; once your vet has seen it, an open front is the easy way in and out, and a dog that needs firm support wants published memory foam. A Dachshund or any long-backed dog that suddenly cries when picked up, walks oddly behind, or will not jump at all is an emergency, not a bed problem: that is a spine, and it is a same-day vet visit. Anxiety: a bolster at the back makes a nervous dog feel safer, and a dog that panics when left, in a crate or in a car, panting, drooling, pacing, scratching to get out, has a fear that needs training, sometimes medication, and a vet; a softer bed will not fix it. Heat: fur on every surface inside three bolsters is warm in a hot room or a car for a flat-faced dog, an overweight dog or an old one; put it in a cool room in summer, and never leave any dog in a parked car, bed or no bed. Chewers: a dog that opens a seam and eats the fill can block a gut, so check the bolsters and the seams weekly and supervise a puppy with any soft bed. Accidents: get the cover off and washed the same day; if urine has reached the cushion, air it fully before the cover goes back on. The floor: the rubber dots underneath take hold on tiles or wood over time, not straight away, and a sofa that skates when an old dog steps onto the front roll is a sofa that trips an old dog; until they have bedded in, keep it against a wall.

Why I designed it
Two things a lot of small dogs do: they sleep with their head up on something, and they jump in and out of their bed twenty times a day when they should not. The Dachshund does both.

We needed an easy entry option after her surgery, and this bed has supported her recovery beautifully. The open design has made getting in and out completely stress free.
This bed removed the need for her to leap into a raised space, which has been gentler on her aging joints. She uses it far more consistently than her old bed.

FAQ
One size, 90 x 60 x 23 cm outside. Measure the dog curled up, nose to the base of the tail: under about 50 cm fits curled against a bolster with room to turn, which as a guide is a dog to about 15 kg, a Cavalier, a Cavoodle, a Frenchie, a Corgi. Stretched flat along the back bolster, under about 65 cm fits, which is a dachshund flat out. Two small dogs that sleep together fit side by side, as in every photograph. A bigger dog that sleeps flat out wants the Furry Curves Sleeping Mat, which is this fur as a flat mat in four sizes to 118 cm, and a dog that needs a bed for stiff hips wants the SNÜZ Vet Orthopedic Bed. If you need this shape smaller, the Furry Corduroy Open Front Rectangle Bed comes in three sizes from 50 cm.
Memory foam, yes: a memory foam insert in the centre, with soft bolster material round the outside, and you unzip the bottom and take it all out to wash the cover. Orthopedic, this page does not say: nothing published gives the foam's thickness or density. Buy it as a fur sofa with a low front, which is the point for an arthritic, weak-legged or old dog that cannot manage four walls, and buy a dog that needs firm support under stiff hips the SNÜZ Vet Orthopedic Bed or the SNÖR Vet Orthopedic Bed, whose memory foam is published; the SNÖR has a low front of its own.
Three bolsters stand at the full 23 cm and the front drops to a low fur roll the dog walks over; in every photograph it sits well below the bolsters, a step rather than a climb. It is for the dogs and cats that cannot manage a four-walled bed, and the dogs a vet would rather not see jumping: arthritic dogs, dogs with weak back legs or hind-limb paralysis, very weak dogs, Dachshunds, Corgis, Bassets and other long backs, Frenchies and Pugs, small dogs past ten, puppies whose growth plates are still open or who cannot climb into a bigger bed, and any dog recovering from a procedure once your vet says a step is fine; the walls still give the feeling of comfort. It is also a good cat bed: walls to lean on, no lid, and a front a cat can see the room over.
Same idea, different skin, different size and different floor. This one is fur inside and out, one size at 90 x 60 cm for a dog to about 15 kg, with grippy rubber dots underneath that take hold on tiles and wood over time, not on carpet. The Furry Corduroy Open Front Rectangle Bed is corduroy outside and fur inside, has a rubber-dot base too and comes in three smaller sizes to 70 cm and four colours. A bigger small dog, two dogs, a fur lover: this one. A smaller crate, a claw-happy dog or a dog under 8 kg: the corduroy. A dog that half-curls and wants a low edge rather than a bolster wants the Furry Curves Rectangle Bed, and a tight curler the Furry Curves Round Bed, both this fur.
In one specific way: a bolster at the back and a familiar bed that smells of home make a nervous dog feel safer in a strange room or a holiday rental, and that is real. It is not a treatment. A dog that panics when left, or in a crate or a car, panting, drooling, pacing, scratching to get out, has a fear that needs training, sometimes medication, and a vet; a softer bed will not fix it, and the listing should not have said it would.
Less and less. There are grippy rubber dots on the base; they do not take hold straight away, and on carpet or fabric they do not really grip, but on floorboards, tiles or any smooth surface they stick over time as the dog's weight presses them down, well enough that you peel the bed off: not a suction-cup grip, just enough to keep it in one place. For the first days on a hard floor a wall behind it does the job. At 90 x 60 cm outside it needs a 42 inch tray at least; for a smaller crate the Furry Corduroy Open Front Rectangle Bed comes in three sizes from 50 cm. Measure the tray either way.
Unzip the bottom and take all the foam out, then the cover alone goes in the machine: cold, gentle cycle, no softener, air dry out of the sun, then brush the fur back up. No tumble dryer and no iron: heat mats faux fur for good. Yes, a long fur holds hair: a slicker brush or a rubber glove once a week lifts it; the Cream, which is a light latte, hides tan hair and the White shows everything.
Damaged on arrival or faulty: email hello@woopf.com with a photo and your order number as soon as you notice, and it is covered. Wrong size and it is unused in its packaging: email within 14 days and we will look at a swap. A bed a dog has slept on cannot come back for hygiene reasons, so measure the curl before you order rather than after.
