  1. 0:05 G'day, I'm Dr Duncan Houston, and this is my fake living room.
  2. 0:13 All right, what have I got here? I've got one of the vet orthopedic range, lavender-infused SNÜZ beds. That's right.
  3. 0:19 These are awesome. They are the top-of-the-line beds. But wait, what else can I do to make these even better? I can put covers on. That's right—waterproof covers.
  4. 0:29 Oh my God, waterproof, washable covers. That's right. So I can just be like, "Oh, my dog stinks. I don't want to get the bed dirty."
  5. 0:38 How can I make these even better? Look at this nice black sheepskin. Perfect for a dirty dog. That's right.
  6. 0:46 Get that dog to sit down. Really easy to put on, really easy to take off, really easy to wash in the washing machine.
  7. 0:53 All right, what else have we got here? Your dog likes smooth. I love smooth too.
  8. 0:57 These are the velvet fur. It's like rabbit fur. It's super soft, super nice. Loop that on. Yeah, that's right.
  9. 1:05 Oh, look at that. Black silk. You want your dog to sleep on silk? Get one of these. Rabbit fur.
  10. 1:14 And guess what? It's all washable. Cold wash, slow spin cycle.
  11. 1:19 But, you know, if you've got a dirty dog that comes in, they can still have a nice orthopedic sleep with lavender-infused memory foam.
  12. 1:26 With black, you can have it in grey, you can have it in a nice cream colour. Sheepskin, velvet—and then wait, there's more.
  13. 1:35 We have waterproof cover range. Okay—oh, not the range, just a waterproof cover.
  14. 1:41 Take that off. Look how easy they are. Just on and off. Chuck them in the washing machine. Bang.
  15. 1:46 All right, this one is more difficult because this is a waterproof cover, so you actually have to take the foam out of this and put it inside this very tough waterproof cover.
  16. 1:58 So it's not just waterproof, it's tough. That's right. All right.
  17. 2:04 Let's unzip this. That's the cover, the centre piece off. This purple memory foam, lavender-infused so that they can have a nice orthopedic, gentle, relaxing sleep.
  18. 2:15 This is the centre bit because it's obviously the square. Let's just slide that in. Bang, bang, bang. Look at that. Oh, so easy, so nice.
  19. 2:24 Let's unzip this bit so we get the bolster, or the wall, out of here. Take that all off so it's all naked.
  20. 2:32 Look, I unzip this so the logo's on the front bit. Anyway, I'll show you. Sits upside down, and you want to put this bottom bit with the dots. Obviously, dots on the bottom—it's grip.
  21. 2:43 Then you're just putting, you're zipping up, sliding the wall in the right place. Make it all nice. Bang, bang, bang. Yeah, that's right. Tuck in the label. Bang.
  22. 2:57 And then slam that down. You have a waterproof bed. Waterproof, orthopedic, lavender-infused SNÜZ range bed. That's right.
  23. 3:09 These covers are really only for the SNÜZ range. I don't have covers for the NÄP range, and I don't have covers for the SNÖR range, but some of the covers for this can be used for the SNÖR range.
  24. 3:20 It just doesn't really fit too well, but you can use it as a cover if you really, really want one.
  25. 3:25 This is a very good cover. Very tough, very waterproof.
  26. 3:29 If you've got a dog that likes to scratch and dig beds and destroy them, I would get one of these covers.
  27. 3:34 It's not invincible, but it's way stronger than any of the other covers that I've got. And I've made something that's waterproof on the outside, and then you've also got a waterproof cover on the inside memory foam as well.
  28. 3:45 It's just that this is tough and built for scratching.
  29. 3:48 So yeah, anyway, look at that.
  30. 3:51 So, SNÜZ range, vet orthopedic memory foam, lavender-infused. You've got waterproof cover. Then you have the nice velvet fur covers, like rabbit fur, in black, grey and cream.
  31. 4:03 Then you've got sheepskin in black, grey, cream, or a super cool checkered. I'm not a one-trick pony.

How it works

Why the working spare exists, and which dog needs the waterproof one as well

Illustrated man kneeling beside a golden retriever on a SNÜZ in grey fleece, a cream fleece spare drying on a wooden airer behind them

The working spare: off, washed, back on by evening

A washable bed is only washable if the dog has somewhere to sleep while the cover dries, and the bouclé takes most of a day.

  • Over the bed's own coverThe fleece slip-on goes over the whole bed, cushion and bolsters, with the bed's own cover still in place, and comes off in a minute.
  • Wash day is a swapThe fleece goes on while the bouclé dries, the bouclé goes back on while the fleece washes.
  • Light, and quick to dryFleece is the light one, 410 to 660 g, so it goes in with the towels, and a thin pile dries far faster than a dense fur or a bouclé loop.
  • Two covers, twice as longTwo covers in rotation last twice as long, and the foam never sits bare.

Fleece or faux fur: which spare to buy

Both slip-on covers do the same job over the same bed, and the honest difference is the pile. Either way, buy the size of the bed.

  • The fur: warmest, slower to dryThe faux fur is longer, plusher and the warmest thing in the house in July; it is also slower to dry and holds more hair.
  • The fleece: lighter, quicker to dryThe fleece is a short, curly pile, still soft and still warm, lighter, quicker to dry and easier to brush out.
  • Four colours, one a checkThe fleece comes in four colours instead of three, including the brown and cream check that is the one patterned cover in the range.
  • Which one to buyBuy the fur for the dog that sleeps cold and the room that wants the luxury; buy the fleece if you wash a cover every week; buy two fleeces if you foster.

What it is not: waterproof, or confirmed on every bed

Fleece is not waterproof. An accident goes through it to the bed's own cover and then to the SNÜZ's waterproof inner covers, which is exactly what those are for.

  • The foam stays dryYou wash the fleece and the bouclé, and the foam stays dry.
  • Daily accidents need the waterproof coverIf accidents are daily rather than occasional, a puppy in training, a foster litter, a senior that leaks, the SNÜZ Bed Cover (Dig-Proof & Waterproof) is the protection layer and this is the comfort on top of it, not a substitute for it.
  • Cut for the SNÜZ, three sizesIt is cut for the SNÜZ, the bouclé and the suede, which share their shape and their three sizes.
  • Not yet checked on other bedsThe corduroy frame, the NÄP nest and the SNÖR have not been checked against it and the page will say so until they are.

Three sizing rules

  • Buy the size of the SNÜZ bed it goes on. Small covers the Small (73 x 58 x 15 cm), Medium the Medium (94 x 74 x 15 cm), Large the Large (115 x 90 x 15 cm). The bouclé and the suede SNÜZ share those sizes. Laid flat the covers measure 75 x 60, 96 x 76 and 117 x 92 cm.

  • It goes on over the whole bed with the bed's own cover still on. Pull it over the back bolster first, then the two sides, then the front, and tuck the edge under the base. Off is the reverse, in less time.

  • The corduroy SNÜZ, the NÄP and the SNÖR are different shapes. Nothing published confirms the cover on them, so do not buy it for those beds until it does; email hello@woopf.com and ask.

How to

How to swap, wash and dry it

  • Illustrated woman pulling a black fleece cover down over the front bolster of a SNÜZ

Put it on over the bed you have

Leave the bouclé or suede cover on. Pull the fleece over the back bolster first, then the sides, then the front, and tuck the edge under the base. A minute, and less each time.

  • Illustrated woman loading a black fleece cover into a washing machine, the SNÜZ beside her in its own cover

    Swap, do not strip

Wash day: fleece off and into the machine, or bouclé off and fleece on. One cover washing, one on the bed, no evening on the couch.

  • Illustrated woman hanging a black fleece cover over a wooden airer to dry

Wash it cold, hang it out

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, no softener, and hang it in the shade; fleece dries in an afternoon. No tumble dryer: heat flattens a pile and sets a stain.

  • Illustrated woman in a rubber glove lifting dog hair off a black fleece cover on a SNÜZ

Brush it if it holds hair

A damp rubber glove across the pile lifts a week of hair in a minute. A short curly pile holds less than fur, but it is not nothing on a golden retriever.

  • Illustrated woman kneeling with a folded brown and cream check fleece beside a SNÜZ in black fleece

Two for a puppy or a foster home

If a cover is coming off every second day, one spare is not a rotation. Two fleeces and the bed's own cover means there is always a dry one, and none of them wears out.

Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, BVSc

A bed cover is comfort, not treatment, and the cover is the part of the bed that touches the dog, so keep it clean. Wash it fortnightly in normal use, weekly for a dog with itchy skin or allergies, and after every accident, because urine left in a pile fabric causes urine scald and skin infection within a day or two. A puppy that is still wetting the bed at five or six months, or a house-trained dog of any age that starts, needs a vet before it needs a spare cover: a urinary infection, worms, a diet change, or in an older dog kidney disease, diabetes or Cushing's all present as a wet bed first. A dog that suddenly avoids a bed it used to like, or scratches after lying on it, may be too hot on a fleece surface: take the cover off and see whether the itch follows it, then see your vet if it does not, because fabric is rarely the cause of a skin problem and usually only where you notice it. Puppies and chewers: a loose edge is a thing to pull at, so check it is tucked under and take it away from a dog that is eating it.

Why I designed it

The puppy does not care that the cover is in the wash.

A lot of the dogs I send home from an emergency shift are going to make a mess of a bed that week: the puppy with diarrhoea, the dog with a drain, the old dog on a new tablet that makes him drink. Their owners do not need a lecture on hygiene, they need a second cover, and they need it to be dry by tonight. That is this one.

  • On in a minute, over the cover you haveIt goes over the whole SNÜZ with the bed's own cover still on, it comes off in a minute, it washes cold, and fleece is light enough to dry on the line in an afternoon, so the bed is never bare and the couch is never plan B.
  • Fleece or fur: which spareThe faux fur slip-on is the plush winter one; this is the working one, and it comes in four colours because a spare on a foster bed should still look like furniture.
  • The honest linesFleece is not waterproof, the inner covers under it are, and a dog that leaks every day wants the waterproof cover as well; a curly pile holds some hair, so brush it; it is cut for the bouclé and suede SNÜZ and not yet confirmed on the corduroy frame or the NÄP; and the listing says it zips while the name says it slips on, which we are settling. Bridie and Kiko tested every version.

    Which beds does it fit?

The SNÜZ bed, in bouclé (the SNÜZ Vet Orthopedic Bed) or suede (the SNÜZ Orthopedic Suede Bed): they share one shape and three sizes, and the cover comes in the same three. Buy the size of the bed you own. The SNÜZ Orthopedic Corduroy Bed is a different shape, a four-sided frame, and the NÄP and the SNÖR are different again; nothing published confirms the cover on them, so do not buy it for those until it does.

Fleece or the faux fur: which spare should I buy?

They do the same job over the same bed. The SNÜZ Bed Slip-On Cover in faux fur has the longer, plusher pile: warmer, slower to dry, holds more hair, three colours, one price. This fleece is a short curly pile: still soft, lighter, quicker to dry, easier to brush, four colours including the check. If you wash a cover every week, or you have a puppy, a foster litter or more than one dog, buy the fleece. If the dog sleeps cold and the cover comes off once a fortnight, buy the fur. Plenty of households end up with one of each and rotate by season.

Does it go over the bouclé cover, or replace it?

Over it. The fleece goes over the whole bed, cushion and bolsters, with the bed's own cover still on; the photographs show exactly that, the fleece lifted off a bed that still has its cover. That is what makes it a spare rather than a replacement: on wash day one cover is in the machine and the other is on the bed, and nothing gets unzipped.

Does it zip, or slip on?

The listing says both. The Features tab and the search listing say a heavy-duty zip; the name says slip-on and the photographs show it lifted off in one piece like a sheet. We are confirming which with the maker, and this answer changes the day we do. Either way it goes on over the whole bed in about a minute.

Is it waterproof? I have a puppy.

No, and neither is any fleece. An accident goes through it to the bed's own cover and then to the SNÜZ's waterproof inner covers, which are what protect the foam: you wash the fleece and the bouclé and the foam stays dry. For a puppy having accidents most days, or a senior that leaks, put the SNÜZ Bed Cover (Dig-Proof & Waterproof) on the bed as the protection and use this over it as the soft layer that washes. Keep two fleeces if the cover is coming off every second day.

How often should I wash it, and how?

Fortnightly in normal use, weekly for a dog with itchy skin, and after every accident. Cold water, gentle cycle, no fabric softener (it flattens a pile and cuts how well it wicks), and hang it in the shade; fleece dries in an afternoon. No tumble dryer and no iron: heat flattens the pile and sets stains. A damp rubber glove across it between washes lifts the hair.

Is the Brown a plain brown?

No. Brown is a brown and cream check, the one patterned cover in the range, in the same fleece as the plain colours. The Features tab calls the colours "Cream, Grey, Black, Black & Brown", which is a typing error; there is no black in it. If a plain brown is what you want, tell hello@woopf.com: at least one faux fur customer has asked for a chocolate brown too.

What if the size is wrong, or it arrives damaged?

Damaged or faulty on arrival: email hello@woopf.com as soon as you notice with a photo and your order number and it is covered. Wrong size: returns are considered within 14 days on unused items in their original packaging, so match it to the bed size you own before you order.
