A faux fur spare cover that slips over the whole SNÜZ sofa in a minute: the bed is never out of service on wash day, the surface is warmer for the cold months, and the colour can change with the room.

How it works

The bouclé and suede covers on the SNÜZ sofa zip off and machine wash, and then they take a day to air dry, because heat and foam-bed covers do not mix. That is a day of a dog with no bed.

Most dogs choose the softest, warmest thing in the room in winter, which is why the couch loses.

It is a comfort cover, not a protective one.
Size guide
SNÜZ Small sofa, bouclé or suedeBed outer size 73 x 58 x 15 cm · Cover weight 320 g
SNÜZ Medium sofa, bouclé or suedeBed outer size 94 x 74 x 15 cm · Cover weight 400 g
SNÜZ Large sofa, bouclé or suedeBed outer size 115 x 90 x 15 cm · Cover weight 510 g
Buy the size of the SNÜZ bed it goes on. Small covers the Small (73 x 58 x 15 cm), Medium the Medium (94 x 74 x 15 cm), Large the Large (115 x 90 x 15 cm). The bouclé and the suede SNÜZ share those sizes.
It goes on over the whole bed with the bed's own cover still on. Pull it over the back bolster first, then the two sides, then the low front, and tuck the edge under the base. Off is the reverse, in less time.
The corduroy SNÜZ, the NÄP and the SNÖR are different shapes. Nothing published confirms the cover on them, so do not buy it for those beds until it does; email hello@woopf.com and ask.

How to

Leave the bouclé or suede cover on. Pull the slip-on over the back bolster first, then the sides, then the low front, and tuck the edge under the base. A minute, and less each time.

A damp rubber glove or a slicker across the fur lifts a week of hair off in a minute. Fur holds hair the way a bouclé does not, so this is the trade for the warmth.

Wash day: slip-on off and into the machine, or bouclé off and slip-on on. One cover washing, one on the bed, no evening on the couch.

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle and air dry out of direct sun; heat mats faux fur and no tumble dryer fixes that. When it is dry, brush the pile back up.

Fur is the winter surface. When the nights warm up, or for a thick-coated dog that runs hot, go back to the bouclé or the suede and put the slip-on away clean.
Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, emergency veterinarian
A bed cover is comfort, not treatment, and a cover is the part of a bed that touches the dog, so keep it clean. Wash it at least fortnightly, weekly for a dog with itchy skin, allergies or a skin infection, because a pile fabric holds dander, dust and the yeast and bacteria that live on a dog's skin. A dog that suddenly avoids a bed it used to like, or scratches after lying on it, may be too hot on a fur surface: check the room, take the cover off, and see your vet if the itch continues, because a fabric is rarely the cause of a skin problem and usually only the place you notice it. A wet cover left under a dog causes urine scald and skin infection within a day or two; a house-trained dog that starts wetting the bed needs a vet, not a cover. Puppies and chewers: a loose edge is a thing to pull at, so check it is tucked under and take it away from a dog that is eating it.

Why I designed it
Here is the maths of a washable bed. The cover comes off, goes through a cold wash and hangs up, and for the rest of that day the dog is sleeping on the bare inner covers or, more likely, on your couch. Do that once a fortnight for a year and it is twenty-six evenings of a bed out of service. The slip-on cover fixes it: it goes over the whole SNÜZ, bolsters and all, with the bed's own cover still on, so one is in the wash while the other is on the bed, and the swap takes a minute. I made it in fur because that is what most dogs choose in winter, and in three colours because a bed sits in a living room. The honest lines: fur holds heat and hair, so brush it and take it off in summer; it is not waterproof, the inner covers under it are, and a dog that leaks needs the waterproof cover instead; and it is cut for the SNÜZ sofa, not yet confirmed on the corduroy frame or the NÄP. Bridie and Kiko tested every version.

The black cover is the first one I’ve tried and the pets definitely all approve, and the colours look nice everywhere. I’m definitely buying cream next and hoping they later make a chocolate brown.

FAQ
The SNÜZ sofa bed, in bouclé (the SNÜZ Vet Orthopedic Bed) or suede (the SNÜZ Orthopedic Suede Bed): they share one shape and three sizes, and the cover comes in the same three. Buy the size of the bed you own. The SNÜZ Orthopedic Corduroy Bed is a different shape, a four-sided frame, and the NÄP and the SNÖR are different again; nothing published confirms the cover on them, so do not buy it for those until it does.
Over it. The slip-on goes over the whole bed, cushion and bolsters, with the bed's own cover still on; the photographs show exactly that. That is what makes it a spare rather than a replacement: on wash day one cover is in the machine and the other is on the bed, and nothing gets unzipped.
The card on the listing says elastic slip-on and the photographs show it pulled on like a fitted sheet; the Features tab says a zip. We are confirming which with the maker, and this answer changes the day we do. Either way it goes on over the whole bed in about a minute.
Probably, and that is the point of a spare: it is the winter surface. Fur traps a layer of air the flat bouclé does not, which is why a curled-up dog picks it on a cold night and lies on the tiles in January. When the nights warm up, or for a thick-coated dog that runs hot all year, take it off and go back to the bouclé or the suede.
No. Fur is not waterproof, and an accident goes through it to the bed's own cover and then to the waterproof inner covers, which are what actually protect the foam. For a puppy in training, a senior that leaks or a dog home from surgery, buy the SNÜZ Bed Cover (Dig-Proof & Waterproof) instead: it seals the whole bed and wipes clean. This cover is for comfort and for the rotation.
Cold water, gentle cycle, and air dry flat out of direct sun; then brush the pile back up with a slicker or a rubber glove. No tumble dryer, no iron, no radiator: heat is what mats faux fur, and matted fur does not recover. Between washes, a weekly brush lifts the hair off. Every fortnight in normal use, weekly for a dog with itchy skin.
Cream, Grey and Black are the SNÜZ sofa's three colours, so you can match the bed or change it. The Grey is a pale silver rather than a charcoal, which customers have pointed out approvingly; the Cream is the warm one; the Black hides a dark dog's hair and shows a pale dog's. Pick the colour nearest the coat if hair on the bed bothers you, and the colour nearest the room if it does not.
Damaged or faulty on arrival: email hello@woopf.com as soon as you notice with a photo and your order number and it is covered. Wrong size: returns are considered within 14 days on unused items in their original packaging, so match it to the bed size you own before you order.
