  1. 0:05 Good day. I'm Dr Duncan Houston, and this is my fake living room.
  2. 0:12 This is called the Snacky Hive. This is the white one, which is the glow-in-the-dark one. We've got blue, we've got purple, and we've got black.
  3. 0:20 These are all different strengths of chew: the white one being the weakest, blue next, which is soft, the purple, which is standard, and the black, which is hard.
  4. 0:28 So out of these, these two are great for kind of puppies and older dogs just because, you know, if they've got newly growing teeth, then you don't want to give them something that's too hard. And also with older dogs, they've got brittle teeth that might fall out—give them something a bit weaker and a bit softer.
  5. 0:44 And these two are standard chew just for adults, kind of thing. And the black one's for kind of stronger chewers, you know, Labradors, Golden Retrievers, things like that.
  6. 0:54 Look, let's go through these toys. I'll pick the purple one, and we'll go through it more.
  7. 0:58 So anyway, like I modeled this off actually a beehive, a giant turd, and an ice cream cone. Kind of put it together. Had my own drawings and ideas with it. I made it kind of more of an obtuse angle or whatever on the outside.
  8. 1:11 So it's got these three kind of thicker rings around the outside. The reasoning behind that was strength, so to make it, I guess, a bit stronger.
  9. 1:18 Obviously, you've got a hole at the top, which is pretty much just for cleaning and also olfactory for smell, and then you've got a hole at the bottom. So inside, it is hollow. You can put like food, treats, peanut butter, pastes, things like that in there. You can get them to chew it.
  10. 1:30 These rings around the outside as well—you can put food in between there to kind of catch them in the grooves.
  11. 1:35 So this is like a kind of a big chew toy. It can be a slow dispenser feeder; it can hold quite a bit of food in there. Even though it looks like a cone or whatever, that's definitely a meal for most dogs. You can chuck a bunch of dry food in there. You know, wet food probably you're going to be difficult getting all the wet food out of there. You can use wet food as treats and stuff, but if you're going to use it as a food dispenser, I would use it for, you know, dry food.
  12. 1:58 I like raw feeding or natural feeding. So, you're looking more at kind of air-dried ZiwiPeak or a freeze-dried product. If you do your own air drying or you have other brands, there's heaps of brands out there. So, air-dried and freeze-dried stuff—great stuff to put in here.
  13. 2:12 Or if you're a kibble person, if that's the kind of stuff that you want to do, then you can put it in here as well. Dry, like dry kibble, super easy to put in here, too. Big hole at the bottom. You can get them to chew on the outside.
  14. 2:23 Look, it's just a slow food dispenser toy that's great for chewing, great for teeth, great for gums, you know. And by having kind of more ridges and things, it's got more things for them to chew around.
  15. 2:33 So anyway, these are all 25%—well, apart from the silicone one because I can't do it for silicone—but these three are all 25% recycled rubber. That's the maximum I can get. And with this strength, I will bring out another version later on this year in all different strengths, but just without the 25% natural rubber. It does make the material stronger, so I can get like an invincible version, which is like a super hard one. And then I'll bring out more sizes of these later on in the year.
  16. 3:00 But the main things like for this is dental health, slow feeding, chewing, putting food and treats inside of them. It's pretty much the same with all the toys; they're just different shapes and different designs. So, whatever you're looking for, these ones I think are the best for slow feeders because as they knock it around, it's going to roll around like, you know, a cone. You know, sometimes things are going to drop out, and it is going to be a bit more of like a steady slow feeder because the circle hole will drop out a few more.
  17. 3:25 I'll go through all the toys and, yeah, we'll go through everything. Anyway, they're the Snacky Hive. This is my own design again. I love these.

How it works

Why the Snacky Hive is the Chewster you feed dinner in

A woman kneels beside a golden retriever puppy nosing kibble out of a purple Snacky Hive.

Dinner from the Hive, not the bowl

Pour a meal of kibble in through the base hole and stand it up. The dog has to knock it over, roll it and work the openings to get the food out a few pieces at a time.

  • 15 to 25 minutes of nose, paws and brainThe same meal takes 40 seconds from a bowl.
  • Slows the gulpersThe ones who swallow air and bring food back up.
  • A job when they need oneThe Hive gives a bored dog a job at the two moments they most need one, and burns more of the day's energy than the same food from a bowl ever will.
  • For a dog that has learnt the kibble trickWet food, yoghurt or mashed pumpkin packed in and frozen makes a longer session.

Match the strength to the dog, not to the marketing

Same shape, same holes, same size; only the material changes. Between two strengths, go harder for a shredder and softer for a puppy or a senior.

  • Glow is Extra SoftSilicone rather than rubber, and it glows in the dark. The one for puppies still cutting adult teeth, seniors with worn teeth and dogs that mouth rather than chew.
  • Blue is SoftFor light to moderate chewers.
  • Purple is StandardRight for most adult dogs.
  • Black is HardFor the staffies, cattle dogs and mastiffs who have destroyed everything else.
A golden retriever puppy lies beside two purple Snacky Hives, one tipped over with kibble falling from the hole in its base.

Two holes, and why the small one matters

A 25 mm hole in the base, a 10 mm hole in the top, and the tiered ridges of the hive.

  • Fill it through the baseThe 25 mm hole in the base is for filling and for dispensing.
  • The 10 mm top hole is the ventA hollow toy with a single opening can seal onto a dog's tongue and create suction. The second hole makes that impossible.
  • Small treats trickle outThe top hole also lets the smallest treats trickle out, which keeps a beginner from giving up.
  • The ridges work the gumsThe tiered ridges give the jaws a grip and work across the tooth surface and along the gum line. That supports dental hygiene between brushes and check-ups. It does not replace them.

Four sizing rules

  • One size: 12 cm tall and 10.5 cm across, hollow. It suits dogs from about 7 kg to about 45 kg: too big to swallow, light enough to roll, and it holds roughly a cup of kibble.

  • Toy breed under 7 kg? The Blocky Bone Small is the better fit. Over 45 kg, or any dog that has destroyed a Black Chewster? Black only, supervised, and email us the photo.

  • The real choice is the strength. Glow for puppies still cutting adult teeth, seniors and beginners. Blue for light to moderate chewers. Purple for most adult dogs. Black for the ones that have destroyed everything else.

  • Typical breeds in that range: Beagle, Border Collie, Labrador, Rottweiler (15 to 100 lb).

A golden retriever puppy sits among the four Snacky Hives: Glow and Purple on one side, Blue and Black on the other.

How to

How to feed from a treat dispenser safely

  • A man in a purple jumper kneels beside a golden retriever puppy and reaches for the purple Snacky Hive in a row of four: Glow, Blue, Purple and Black.

    Pick the strength

Glow for puppies and seniors, Blue for light chewers, Purple for most dogs, Black for power chewers. Not sure? A dog that has never destroyed a toy takes Purple; a dog with a graveyard of toys takes Black.

  • A man in a purple jumper kneels with a few pieces of kibble in his hand while a golden retriever puppy paws a tipped-over purple Snacky Hive and kibble rolls out of its base.

    Start with a loose fill

The first session should be a win: a small handful of kibble that falls out easily, in the room with you, so the dog learns that knocking the Hive over pays.

  • A man in a purple jumper kneels beside a golden retriever puppy, holding a purple Snacky Hive base up in one hand and a scoop of kibble in the other.

    Feed the meal from it

Pour the whole meal in through the base hole and stand it up on a hard floor. Once the dog has the trick, mix in a few larger biscuits that take more work to get past the hole.

  • A man in a purple jumper crouches at the front door, keys in hand and a bag beside him, and sets a purple Snacky Hive down for a golden retriever puppy.

Pack and freeze for longer sessions

Wet food, yoghurt or pumpkin packed in and frozen keeps most dogs busy for 30 minutes or more. Use it before you leave the house, during visitors, or after a big walk.

  • A man in a purple jumper scrubs a purple Snacky Hive with a brush at a sink while a golden retriever puppy sits beside him.

Inspect and wash after every use

Look at both holes and the rim of the base. Retire the toy once a piece can be bitten off or the base hole has widened enough to trap a jaw. Wash it after wet fills; a hollow toy left damp grows things.

Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, BVSc

No chew toy is indestructible, and a determined dog can damage anything given enough time. Match the strength to the dog: a Hard Hive in a puppy's mouth can crack a tooth, and a Glow in a power chewer's mouth becomes pieces. Slowing a fast eater helps, but it is not a treatment for bloat: a deep-chested dog that retches without producing anything, or whose belly swells, is an emergency, not a feeding question. Never use peanut butter that contains xylitol (sometimes labelled birch sugar): it is toxic to dogs. If your dog swallows a piece of any toy and vomits, strains, or goes off food, see a vet the same day.

Why I designed it

Most dogs finish dinner in under a minute. That is a wasted twenty minutes of the best enrichment they will get all day.

A bowl of kibble is gone in 40 seconds, and a dog that inhales food swallows air with it, brings it back up, and then has nothing to do for the rest of the evening. I wanted the meal itself to be the job.

  • The meal is the jobThe Snacky Hive is hollow: pour dinner in through the 25 mm hole in the base and the dog has to roll, nudge and lick it out a few pieces at a time.
  • The second hole is not decorationA hollow toy with a single opening can create suction on a tongue, and I have seen what that does, so the Hive vents.
  • Four strengths for four mouthsIt comes in four strengths because a puppy, a senior and a Rottweiler should not be chewing the same rubber.
  • The Glow is the softestIt is silicone, and it glows so you can find it under the couch at night.
  • Not a treatment for bloatIt is not a treatment for bloat and no toy is, but slowing a fast eater down is one of the few things every vet agrees on.
  • Tested on Bridie and KikoBridie and Kiko tested every version.

    • We absolutely love the Snacky Hive. It makes meal times so much more exciting and prevents any boredom. We also love the different chew strengths as we have a very heavy chewer and she's not managed to chew through this enrichment toy which is a bonus!

      Amy February 2026
    • The hexagonal cell design of the Snacky Hive is genuinely clever — treats lodge in the cells at different depths so my dog has to work from different angles to get them all out. Now she actually sits and thinks before pawing at it.

    Which strength should I choose?

Glow (Extra Soft) for puppies still cutting their adult teeth, older dogs with worn or missing teeth, and dogs that mouth a toy rather than chew it; it is silicone rather than rubber and it glows in the dark. Blue (Soft) for light to moderate chewers. Purple (Standard) for most adult dogs: it is the one to buy if you have never had a toy destroyed. Black (Hard) for the dogs with a graveyard of toys behind them: staffies, cattle dogs, mastiffs, and any dog that has already shredded a Standard. Between two strengths, go harder for a shredder and softer for a puppy or a senior.

How much food does it hold, and can I feed whole meals from it?

Roughly a cup of dry kibble, which is a full meal for a medium dog and most of one for a large dog; we are confirming the exact volume. Yes to whole meals: that is what it is for. Pour the kibble in through the 25 mm base hole, stand it up on a hard floor, and let the dog work. Weigh or measure the food as you normally would; the Hive changes how long dinner takes, not how much dinner is.

My dog eats too fast. Will this help?

It is the single most useful thing you can do about it short of a vet visit. A dog that inhales a bowl swallows air, and gulping is one of the things vets associate with regurgitation and, in deep-chested breeds, with bloat. The Hive turns the same meal into 15 to 25 minutes of work. It is not a treatment for bloat and nothing you can buy is: a deep-chested dog that retches without bringing anything up, or whose belly swells, needs an emergency vet immediately.

    Is it safe for puppies?

The Glow is made for them. It is the softest of the four, it is silicone, and puppies chew hardest between about three and seven months while the adult teeth come through, when a chew that is too hard can chip a tooth. Give a puppy the Glow with a loose fill of kibble, supervised, and move up to Blue or Purple once the adult teeth are in and you have seen how they chew. Do not start a puppy on the Black.

Will it suit my dog's size?

It is one size: 12 cm tall and 10.5 cm across, so it suits dogs from about 7 kg to about 45 kg. The rule for any hollow toy is that the whole thing must not fit behind the teeth and the lower jaw must not fit through the opening; at 25 mm the base hole is well under that for any dog in the range. A toy breed under 7 kg does better with the Blocky Bone Small. Over 45 kg, take the Black and supervise.

Why are there two holes, and how do I clean it?

The base hole is for filling and dispensing. The top hole is a vent: a hollow toy with only one opening can seal onto a dog's tongue and create suction, and the second hole makes that impossible. It also lets the smallest treats trickle out for a beginner. Cleaning: top rack of the dishwasher, or warm soapy water and a bottle brush through the base hole, and let it dry with the base hole down. Wash it after every wet fill; a damp hollow toy grows mould.

What if it arrives damaged or I picked the wrong strength?

Damaged on arrival or faulty: email hello@woopf.com with a photo and your order number as soon as you notice, and it is covered. Wrong strength and it is unused in its packaging: email within 14 days and we will look at a swap.
