How it works

The tentacles curl around the body and their undersides are recessed honeycomb pads, the way an octopus sucker is.
Same shape, same pads, same treat hole, same size; only the rubber changes. Between two strengths, go harder for a shredder and softer for a puppy or a senior.

The head sits on a wider body, so there is always a lobe to get the jaws or the paws around, and the toy rolls off-line when it is dropped, so it has to be chased and re-gripped rather than pinned and ground.

One size: 10.5 cm tall, 8.5 cm wide and about 190 g. It suits dogs from about 7 kg to about 35 kg: too big to swallow, small enough to carry.
Toy breed under 7 kg? The Blocky Bone Small is the better fit. Power chewer over 35 kg, or any dog that can get the whole body behind their teeth? Take the Blocky Bone Large.
The real choice is the strength. Soft for puppies still cutting adult teeth, seniors and gentle chewers. Standard for most adult dogs. Hard for the ones that have destroyed everything else.
Typical breeds in that range: Beagle, Staffy, Border Collie, Labrador (15 to 77 lb).

How to

Soft for puppies and seniors, Standard for most dogs, Hard for power chewers. Not sure? A dog that has never destroyed a toy takes Standard; a dog with a graveyard of toys takes Hard.

The first session should be a win: a thin smear of xylitol-free peanut butter or yoghurt on the sucker pads, in the room with you, so the dog learns that the Octopus pays out.

Kibble in the hole, paste on the pads, an hour in the freezer. That keeps most dogs busy for 20 minutes or more. Use it before you leave the house, during visitors, or after a big walk.

Check the eyes, the starfish, the pads and the rim of the hole. Retire the toy once a piece can be bitten off or the hole has widened enough to trap a jaw.

Whatever goes on the pads or in the hole comes out of the daily food allowance. Treats should stay under 10% of daily calories.
Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, BVSc
No chew toy is indestructible, and a determined dog can damage anything given enough time. Match the strength to the dog: a Hard Octopus in a puppy's mouth can crack a tooth, and a Soft one in a power chewer's mouth becomes pieces. The eyes and the starfish are the first thing a strong chewer works on, so check them after each session. Supervise sessions, especially the first few. Never use peanut butter that contains xylitol (sometimes labelled birch sugar): it is toxic to dogs. If your dog swallows a piece of any toy and vomits, strains, or goes off food, see a vet the same day.

Why I designed it
Watch a dog with a new chew and most of them lick it before they bite it.

We got the black one for my dog Ozzii because he is a super chewer and has the strongest jaws ever and usually destroys toys pretty fast. I wasnt expecting it to last but its actually holding up really good. He loves chewing on the tentacles and I put a little peanut butter in the treat hole which keeps him busy for a long time! It is truly one of the few toys he keeps going back to every day and it still looks great. Really happy with this purchase and Ozzii definitely approves. We will be buying this toy again and again because he plays with it for hours!!
My dog was interested in this toy right away. She kept sniffing it, chewing it, and carrying it around like it was her new treasure. The size is nice for a small dog, and the purple design is really cute. It feels light but not flimsy, and it keeps her busy for a while. Definitely a fun little toy for playful pups!

FAQ
Soft (Blue) for puppies still cutting their adult teeth, older dogs with worn or missing teeth, and gentle chewers who mouth a toy rather than attack it. Standard (Purple) for most adult dogs: it is the one to buy if you have never had a toy destroyed. Hard (Black) for the dogs with a graveyard of toys behind them: staffies, cattle dogs, mastiffs, and any dog that has already shredded a Standard. Between two strengths, go harder for a shredder and softer for a puppy or a senior.
On the sucker pads: peanut butter that is free of xylitol, plain yoghurt, mashed pumpkin or banana, or wet food, smeared thin so the dog has to lick for it. In the hole: kibble, or a plug of the same paste. Freeze the loaded toy for a longer session. Afterwards, top rack of the dishwasher, or warm soapy water and a bottle brush through the hole and a nail brush across the pads. Let it dry before refilling. Whatever goes on it counts toward the day's food.
The Soft strength is made for them. Puppies chew hardest between about three and seven months while the adult teeth come through, and a chew that is too hard at that age can chip a tooth. Give a puppy the Soft, with a smear of yoghurt on the pads, supervised, and move up to Standard once the adult teeth are in and you have seen how they chew. Do not start a puppy on the Hard.
It is one size: 10.5 cm tall, 8.5 cm wide and about 190 g, so it suits dogs from about 7 kg to about 35 kg. The rule for any chew toy is that the whole thing must not fit behind the teeth. A toy breed under 7 kg does better with the Blocky Bone Small; a power chewer over 35 kg, or a dog that can get the whole body in their mouth, should take the Blocky Bone Large instead.
Raised details are the first thing a strong chewer works at, so check the eyes, the starfish and the pads after each session and retire the toy once any piece can be bitten free. The flecks themselves are part of the rubber, not paint, and do not chip.
It helps in one specific way: it gives the dog something legal and absorbing to do with its mouth for 20 minutes or so, and licking is a settling behaviour for most dogs. Loaded and frozen, handed over as you leave, it takes the edge off a departure for a bored or mildly worried dog. It is not a treatment for separation anxiety. A dog that panics when alone, damages doors or injures itself needs a plan from a vet or a behaviourist, and our separation anxiety guide is the place to start.
