The Chewster you can throw. A rubber ring that rolls on its edge and bounces off-line, chews like a Chewster afterwards, and comes in Soft, Standard and Hard so the rubber matches the jaw.

How it works

A ring rolls on its edge, so a low throw sends it curving across the yard and a bounce sends it somewhere neither of you expected.
Same ring, same nubs, same size; only the rubber changes. Between two strengths, go harder for a shredder and softer for a puppy or a senior.

The raised nubs on the icing and the scalloped edge where it meets the white base work across the teeth and along the gum line as the dog chews, and give the jaws something to hold.

One size: a 12 cm ring, 4 cm thick, about 220 g. It suits dogs from about 7 kg to about 35 kg: too wide to swallow, light enough to carry and roll.
Toy breed under 7 kg? The Blocky Bone Small is the better fit. Power chewer over 35 kg, or a dog whose lower jaw fits through the centre hole? Take the Blocky Bone Large.
The real choice is the strength. Soft for puppies still cutting adult teeth, seniors and gentle chewers. Standard for most adult dogs. Hard for the ones that have destroyed everything else.
Typical breeds in that range: Beagle, Staffy, Kelpie, Labrador (15 to 77 lb).

How to

Soft for puppies and seniors, Standard for most dogs, Hard for power chewers. Not sure? A dog that has never destroyed a toy takes Standard; a dog with a graveyard of toys takes Hard.

Roll it on its edge or throw it low so the dog chases it along the ground and it bounces off-line. Keep the throws low with a keen catcher: leaping to catch anything hard is how teeth get chipped.

Xylitol-free peanut butter or yoghurt packed inside and over the nubs, an hour in the freezer. For a whole meal, use the Snacky Hive.

Check the icing edge, the nubs and the centre. Retire the ring once a piece can be bitten off or the centre has widened enough to trap a jaw.

Whatever goes on the ring comes out of the daily food allowance. Treats should stay under 10% of daily calories.
Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, BVSc
No chew toy is indestructible, and a determined dog can damage anything given enough time. Match the strength to the dog: a Hard ring in a puppy's mouth can crack a tooth, and a Soft one in a power chewer's mouth becomes pieces. Keep throws low: a dog leaping to catch anything hard can chip a canine. Supervise sessions, especially the first few. Never use peanut butter that contains xylitol (sometimes labelled birch sugar): it is toxic to dogs. If your dog swallows a piece of any toy and vomits, strains, or goes off food, see a vet the same day.

Why I designed it
Ask an owner how their dog gets exercise and most say fetch, and most are throwing a tennis ball.

He hasn't put it down since I gave it to him 2 hours ago! And now I've put treats in it, he loves it even more! My dude is a tooough chewer. It seems, so far, like it will hold up well!
My red heeler loves this and it’s sturdy enough that he hasn’t managed to chew through it.

FAQ
Soft (Blue) for puppies still cutting their adult teeth, older dogs with worn or missing teeth, and gentle chewers who mouth a toy rather than attack it. Standard (Purple) for most adult dogs: it is the one to buy if you have never had a toy destroyed. Hard (Black) for the dogs with a graveyard of toys behind them: staffies, cattle dogs, mastiffs, and any dog that has already shredded a Standard. If you would describe your dog as an aggressive chewer, the Hard is the only Donut to buy, and the first sessions are supervised.
Yes. The ring is hollow: inside, big openings alternate with narrow sections, and the whole body takes paste, treats and snacks. Pack it with peanut butter that is free of xylitol, plain yoghurt or wet food, then an hour in the freezer, which gives most dogs 15 to 20 minutes of licking. It is heavy for its size, and the openings make getting the food back out a challenge. For slow-dispensing a whole meal, the Chewster Snacky Hive holds more.
The Soft strength is made for them. Puppies chew hardest between about three and seven months while the adult teeth come through, and a chew that is too hard at that age can chip a tooth. Give a puppy the Soft, rolled along the ground rather than thrown, and move up to Standard once the adult teeth are in and you have seen how they chew. Do not start a puppy on the Hard.
It is one size: a 12 cm ring, 4 cm thick and about 220 g, so it suits dogs from about 7 kg to about 35 kg. Two rules for any ring toy: the whole thing must not fit behind the teeth, and the lower jaw must not fit through the hole. A toy breed under 7 kg does better with the Blocky Bone Small; a power chewer over 35 kg should take the Blocky Bone Large.
Yes, that is the point of the shape. Roll it on its edge or throw it low and it curves, bounces off-line and turns fetch into a chase. Keep it low with a keen catcher: a dog leaping to snatch anything hard out of the air can chip a canine on the way down, and that goes for balls, sticks and rings alike. It is rubber, not felt, so it does not wear the teeth the way a tennis ball does.
The flecks are recycled rubber. The Donut is made with 25% recycled content and the coloured specks in the icing and the white base are that material showing through. They are part of the rubber, not paint, and they do not chip. Cleaning: top rack of the dishwasher, or warm soapy water with a nail brush over the nubs and around the centre. Let it dry before the next smear.
