The two ways to feed a dog through its nose. A Snuffle Mat, whose deep fleece folds turn dinner into fifteen to twenty minutes of searching and whose velcro face pulls off and squeaks, and a Snuffle Ball, the quiet one, for the ten minutes before you leave, after the walk and during the storm. One mat design of four, one ball size and colour, for less than the two bought apart.

How it works

Scatter a portion of kibble across the mat and rub it into the folds, and the dog has to find every piece by nose, one fold at a time.

The Snuffle Ball is dozens of overlapping fleece petals, so kibble sits deep in the folds and has to be nosed out one piece at a time.

The kit costs less than a Snuffle Mat and a Snuffle Ball bought apart, with the Medium ball or the Large. Four things the kit is not.
Size guide
Dogs to 15 kg, and catsMedium ball, any mat
Dogs 15 kg and upLarge ball, any mat
The ball: Medium (15 cm) for dogs up to about 15 kg and for cats, Large (20 cm) for dogs over 15 kg. Too big to carry is the point: a dog that picks the Medium up and parades it gets the Large.
The mat: one size per design, for any dog and for cats. Avocado 45 x 35 cm (the squeaky pit face), Strawberry 50 x 38 cm (the face), Corgi Butt 45 x 38 cm (the heart tail and two paws), Bumble Bee 45 x 45 cm (the face). A big dog eating a full meal: Bumble Bee or Strawberry; travel: Avocado; a dog that likes carrying things: the Corgi Butt.
What you save: the kit costs less than the mat and the ball bought apart. Not for fabric shredders of any size: a dog that tears soft toys apart needs a rubber treat toy such as the Chewster Blocky Bone.

How to

First session, a few smelly treats sitting on top of the mat's folds, then on top of the ball's, and let your dog watch you put them there. A quick win, not a puzzle.

Scatter the kibble and rub it down into the folds. Most dogs are busy for 15 to 20 minutes; rub it in deeper as they get better. When the folds are empty, pull the face off for a game and pick the mat up.

Push kibble into the petals and roll the ball between your hands. Ten minutes before you leave the house, after a walk when the zoomies start, during storms, visitors and the calls you cannot be interrupted on.

Fleece, not chew toys, and the mat's toys have squeakers inside. Watch every session, pick both up when the food is gone, and in a multi-dog home give each dog its own puzzle in a separate room.

Toys off, crumbs out, cold gentle cycle, air dry, both of them. A mat or a ball that smells of old kibble is one that gets chewed.
Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, BVSc
These are foraging toys, not chew toys. The mat is fleece and its removable toys are soft toys with a squeaker inside, and a swallowed squeaker is a foreign body I take out surgically; the ball has nothing inside but fleece, and swallowed fleece is a foreign body too. Supervise every session, take both away once the food is gone, keep the mat's toys from a dog that de-stuffs soft toys, and retire any piece once the fabric tears or a squeaker shows through. Whatever goes in the mat or the ball comes out of the day's food allowance. In a multi-dog home, one dog at a time in a separate room: a food puzzle is exactly the kind of thing dogs guard from each other. Sniffing settles most dogs; it does not treat separation anxiety, and a dog that panics when left needs a plan from a vet or a behaviourist, with the mat and the ball as one part of it.

Why these two
Nose work is the cheapest calm you can buy, and these are the two ways I give it.

FAQ
One Snuffle Mat in the design you pick, with its removable squeaky toy or toys, and one Snuffle Ball in the size and colour you pick, with its storage bag. The kit costs less than the two bought apart, with the Medium ball or the Large; I checked both pages before writing this.
The mat for meals: rub dinner into the folds instead of using a bowl, and a thirty-second gulp becomes fifteen to twenty minutes of searching, with less air swallowed. The ball for the moments a mat does not fit: ten minutes before you leave, after an over-excited walk, during storms and visitors, in the car or the crate. Two textures keep the game fresh, and a second dog gets one puzzle each, in separate rooms.
Medium ball (15 cm) for dogs up to about 15 kg and for cats, Large (20 cm) for dogs over 15 kg; if your dog can pick the Medium up and carry it, take the Large. The mats work the same way and differ in size and in the toy: Avocado (45 x 35 cm) and Strawberry (50 x 38 cm) have one squeaky face, Bumble Bee (45 x 45 cm) is the biggest surface with one face, and Corgi Butt (45 x 38 cm) has three removable pieces, the heart tail and two paws. A big dog eating a full meal: Bumble Bee or Strawberry; travel: Avocado.
Sniffing and foraging are the fastest ways I know to bring a dog's arousal down, which is why the mat works before you leave the house and the ball works during storms and after an over-excited walk. They are tools, not a treatment: a dog with true separation anxiety needs a plan from a vet or a behaviourist, and the mat and the ball become one part of it.
No. Both are fleece, and the mat's toys have squeakers inside. Watch the session, take both away when the food is gone, and give a fabric shredder or a squeaker eater a rubber toy such as the Chewster Blocky Bone instead. Most torn snuffle toys are torn after the food ran out and nobody picked them up.
Both machine wash cold on a gentle cycle and air dry, once a week or whenever they smell of old kibble. Take the mat's toys off first and wash them by hand or in a laundry bag, and shake the crumbs out of the ball before it goes in.
Yes. Cats usually prefer a few pieces sitting on top of either rather than buried; rabbits and guinea pigs forage well on the flat folds of the mat. Supervise, take the mat's toy off for cats and small pets, and use the Medium ball. For a cat-specific enrichment range, see PURRZ™.
Email hello@woopf.com as soon as you notice, with a photo, your order number and which part it is, and it is covered. Wrong design or colour, unused and in its packaging: email within 14 days and we will look at a swap. A mat or ball shredded by an enthusiastic dog is the wrong toy for that dog, and the Chewster Blocky Bone is the right one.
