How it works

The cover is two fabrics doing two jobs. The sleeping surface and the bolsters are a smooth, short-nap suede.

The dogs that most need an orthopedic bed are the ones that flatten an ordinary one. Under the suede is the same base as the bouclé SNÜZ.

A smooth surface holds less air than a looped or piled one, so suede feels cooler to lie on than bouclé or fur.

Measure your dog lying down, nose to the base of the tail. For a dog that curls up, choose a bed at least 15 cm wider than that number; for a dog that stretches out, 30 cm.
Weight bands: Small for cats and dogs to 12 kg, Medium for 12 to 30 kg, Large for 30 to 55 kg or any dog that sleeps stretched out. Between sizes, go up. Once it arrives, watch how they lie: a head hanging off the front or a hip on the floor means too small.
A small or short-legged dog, a senior that struggles to step over 15 cm, or a dog just home from surgery may be better on the SNÖR, the lower and lighter bed in the range.

How to

Dogs choose spots, not beds. Same room, same corner, on top of wherever the old bed was. Move it to where you would like it a week later.

It ships compressed. Unzip the cover, let the foam recover for 24 to 48 hours before you judge the base, and expect the memory foam layer to soften a little as it warms under a dog.

A few treats on the far bolster, a meal fed on the bed, praise when they step in. Lifting a sore big dog onto a bed hurts you both and teaches nothing.

A senior still has to push off the floor to get up. On tiles or floorboards, put a non-slip mat or rug in front of the bed.

A damp rubber glove or the vacuum's upholstery head lifts the hair off suede in a minute. Every fortnight, unzip the cover and machine wash it cold on a gentle cycle, then air dry; heat flattens the nap. Wipe the waterproof inner covers; never put the foam in the machine.
Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, BVSc
A bed is comfort, not treatment. Stiffness after rest, reluctance to jump or use stairs, licking at one joint, or a limp that lasts more than a day or two needs a veterinary examination, not a better bed. Orthopedic bedding is one part of arthritis care, alongside weight control, sensible exercise, joint support and the pain relief your vet prescribes. A callused elbow is normal on a big dog; a soft, fluid-filled swelling over the elbow is a hygroma and wants a vet before it becomes an abscess, and a padded bed is part of how it is managed. After orthopedic surgery, follow your surgeon's confinement plan: the bed belongs inside the pen or crate, not as a reason to skip it. The lavender is a mild scent in the foam, not an oil your pet can lick. Air the bed for a day before first use if your pet has airway disease, and stop using it if they avoid the bed or seem irritated by it.

Why I designed it
I am not going to pretend the foam is different, because it is not.

FAQ
Yes. The base, the bolsters, the waterproof inner covers, the three sizes and the prices are the same as the SNÜZ Vet Orthopedic Bed sold in bouclé; only the outer cover changes. Choose by the cover, not the foam: suede is the smooth one that hair brushes off and claws do not catch, bouclé is the looped, warmer one. If your dog is small, short-legged or recovering from surgery, the lower and lighter bed in the range is the SNÖR, and it is the one to buy.
Small for cats and dogs up to 12 kg, Medium for 12 to 30 kg, Large for 30 to 55 kg or any dog that sleeps stretched out on its side. Measure your dog lying down from nose to the base of the tail and pick a bed at least 15 cm wider than that for a curler, 30 cm for a stretcher. Between sizes, go up. A golden retriever or a Labrador that sleeps flat needs the Large.
Suede if the house is full of hair, the dog scratches the bed into shape before lying down, or the room runs warm: hair sits on top of a smooth surface, there are no loops to hook, and it feels cooler to lie on. Bouclé if the dog is a cold sleeper who likes texture; it is the warmest of the three. The SNÜZ Orthopedic Corduroy Bed is a different shape, a bolster frame on all four sides with a cushion that lifts out, in a thick-line corduroy that is the most forgiving of claws; same sizes and prices. A serious digger does best with the Dig-Proof and Waterproof Cover over any of them.
It sits on the surface rather than working into a weave, which is the point: a damp rubber glove, a lint roller or the vacuum's upholstery head takes it off in a minute. What you see between brushes depends on the colour match. Dark hair shows on Cream, pale hair shows on Black, and Grey hides most coats. If your dog sheds heavily, pick the colour nearest the coat and brush the bed when you brush the dog.
The inner covers are: the cushion and the bolsters each have a 100% waterproof inner cover under the suede, so an accident stays on the surface and never reaches the foam. The suede outer cover is not waterproof; a wet patch wipes off if you get to it, and the cover zips off and goes in the machine if you do not. For a dog that leaks every night, or a puppy in training, the Dig-Proof and Waterproof Cover goes over the whole bed and wipes clean.
The scent is set into the foam, not applied as an oil that a pet can lick or roll in, and for most dogs it is a mild calm cue at best. Cats are more sensitive to essential oils than dogs, so if the Small is for a cat, or your pet has airway disease, air the bed for a day before first use and skip it if they avoid it. It is not a sedative and it does not treat anxiety.
Unzip it and machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, then air dry out of direct sun; heat and tumble drying flatten the nap. When it is dry, a brush over the surface lifts the nap back up. Wipe the waterproof inner covers with a damp cloth, and never put the foam in the machine. Every fortnight in normal use, sooner after an accident; between washes, a damp cloth on a mark and a rubber glove for the hair.
