  1. 0:05 Good day. I'm Dr. Duncan Houston and this is my fake living room.
  2. 0:12 All right. What we've got here, this is the Explorer Bungee Lead. The reason why it's bungee is cuz it's got a nice bungee elastic part in here. Very good, premium quality. I went through so many different elastic things with the manufacturer trying to find one that was long-lasting and didn't look bad. So, these ones look very nice. It's actually quite hard to find elastic manufacturer for stuff. Anyway, let's go through this lead and why it is good.
  3. 0:35 So, let me go at the end. It's got a snap lock clip. Just use it with one hand. You get your index finger and your thumb. You spin the lock part and you pull it back. That's right. And then you can just let it go and it locks by itself. These are 360° swivel. They're made like matte gunmetal. And these are super light. It's like, I don't know, it's like 15 g or something like that. I don't even know, 17 g. So, even though it's a big clip, it is very lightweight and very strong. It's actually for rock climbing.
  4. 0:59 So, the next part, you've got a traffic handle here. So, you've got this clip, snap lock clip, and then you've got a handle here. Why do you have that? Well, I just said it. You've got the traffic. So, when it's in busy areas, and you know, you want to keep your dog or hold your dog close so they don't run on the road or anything like that, you can grab that. So, your dog's down here and it's in a safety spot, well, it's in a safe spot where this handle is, so they can't get away. Or if your dog's barking at another dog or something like that, you just got to grab them quick. It is very good to be able to have a handle down here.
  5. 1:26 Then you got a bit of a rubber bit. You know, it's just with the logo, looks nice. You've got the nice bungee bit. I told you about that. It's really hard to find a good manufacturer in China for elastic that's just for this stuff. You know, obviously, it's not really a normal kind of weave of fabric and elastic together. Finding a cheap manufacturer is easy, but to find a premium manufacturer for something like this was hard for me to find someone.
  6. 1:46 You can adjust this and then you got the handle here. So, it's got a nice neoprene kind of inner material, so it's nice and soft on your hand. You've got a buckle here so you're able to clip that if you want to go to the coffee shop, lock your dog around a pole or the chair or the table or something like that so they can't get away, you know, and you can be nice and make sure your dog doesn't run off. Uh that's why this clip is here. The other thing is you got a D-ring here if you need to attach anything, like if you need to attach the poo bag dispenser, you can hang it from there. And then you also have a tiny little plastic D-ring here right next to the logo. Now, why do you have that? Well, actually, I've got that if you want to put any tags or anything like that on. I do sell a QR tag, but it's like why would you do that for a lead? Well, if your dog's attached to the lead, you know, sometimes what people would be like if they don't have a collar, they can put the handle bit cuz it's got a clip around their dog and they can hold this end so it actually turns into a collar and a lead. But that's only if you don't have a collar and you're in a rush, an emergency. That's a really good way to use this.
  7. 2:42 Now, the last thing I'll show you guys, I am a relatively large human. Just imagine that if you're a smaller human, then obviously you get more space. But this is a way that you can actually attach. Oh, it's a bit loose, actually. Well, I've made it that way. And you can actually walk around hands-free. That's right. So, your dog is close. I've made this so it's relatively short so your dog can stay close to you and doesn't run around and get annoying with other people. But it's also got the bungee on there in case they pull or whatever. You've got a bit of a spring back and stuff.
  8. 3:12 So anyway, look, really nice lead. This is my favorite lead. It comes in like these kind of striped colors. I love this rainbow one, which is yellow, pink, and blue. Oh, this is the purple. Oh, then you've got this red. Oh, I love, you know, so bright. Then the yellow. We've got like mustard yellow. You know, I might change the yellow a bit, but some people like kind of that yellowy brown. I like the green. Some people really love the forest green and then the lime green beside it. You know, this is I I still like it, but uh you know, obviously, purple and rainbow are my favorite. Yeah, blue is blue, you know. Yeah, orange. I love orange. So, yeah, pink. Fluro pink. Oh, so good. You know, gray, black, kind of a dark charcoal. That's right.
  9. 3:55 Anyway, here's the whole Explorer bungee lead range. You can use it for running, you can use it for walking, you can use it at the cafe, you can use it for anything. And then you can attach the two dog walker lead attachment, which means you can walk two dogs at the same time like what I do. Anyway, thanks very much. See you next time.

How it works

Why the Bungee Leash works for dogs that pull and people who run

A man in a purple jumper runs with a golden retriever in a purple WOOPF™ harness, holding the padded handle of a purple Explorer Bungee Leash as its bungee section stretches between them.

The jolt goes into the lead, not into either of you

The middle section is stretch webbing with a bungee core.

  • Lengthens for a momentWhen your dog hits the end of it, the lead lengthens for a moment and the force arrives as a pull instead of a snap.
  • Your end of the leadYour shoulder and elbow notice on a long walk.
  • Your dog's end of the leadYour dog's neck and chest notice on every walk.
  • A lead you can run withIt is the difference between a lead you brace against and a lead you can run with.
A man in a purple jumper walks beside a golden retriever in a purple WOOPF™ harness, holding the padded handle of a purple Explorer Bungee Leash with the bungee section between them.

Hands-free for the run, handheld for the walk

The padded handle is a loop with a side-release buckle in it.

  • Hands-free round your waistOpen the buckle, pass it round your waist, close it, and you are running, pushing a pram or carrying two coffees with the dog attached to you rather than your hand.
  • Back to a handleClose it back down to a handle for the walk home.
  • Neoprene in both modesThe neoprene padding is there so neither mode rubs.

Traffic handle, swivel clip, and dry by the time you are home

A second loop sits just above the clip.

  • For the kerb and the crowdGrab it at the kerb, in a crowd or when a dog comes round the corner and your dog is at your knee, with no stretch in play.
  • Rustproof swivel, no twistThe clip is a rustproof swivel that rotates a full turn, so the lead does not twist when the dog circles.
  • Rain-shedding, reflective webbingThe nylon webbing sheds rain and mud, keeps its colour and carries a reflective line down its length for the early and late walks.

Size guide

Bungee Leash length and fit guide

Three fit rules

  • One length for every colour: about 1.6 m relaxed, stretching under load; the exact relaxed and stretched lengths are being re-measured. For dogs from about 5 kg. Below that the bungee barely engages and a light fixed lead is the better tool.

  • Waist mode is for jogging, hiking and pram walks with a dog that already walks well. Keep the traffic handle within reach, and never wear it with a dog strong enough to pull you over.

  • Not for a reactive dog that lunges at traffic or other dogs: the stretch adds distance at exactly the wrong moment. Use the Sealskin Leash or the Explorer Adjustable Leash for those walks, and pair any lead with the Explorer Harness if your dog pulls.

The Purple Explorer Bungee Leash laid out in loose loops: the padded handle with its buckle, the ribbed bungee section, the traffic loop and the screw-gate clip.

How to

How to use a bungee dog lead

  • A man in a purple jumper kneels to clip a purple Explorer Bungee Leash to the back ring of a golden retriever's purple WOOPF™ harness, the padded handle in his other hand.

    Pair it with a harness

Clip it to the back ring of a harness, not a collar, for any dog that pulls. The bungee softens the jolt; the harness keeps it off the neck.

  • A man in a purple jumper walks past a park bench holding the padded loop of a purple Explorer Bungee Leash, its buckle closed, while a golden retriever in a purple WOOPF™ harness sits and looks up at him.

    Set the handle

For a walk, keep the buckle closed and hold the padded loop. Never wrap any lead round your hand or fingers.

  • A man in a purple jumper strides over a rock with the padded loop of a purple Explorer Bungee Leash buckled round his waist, both hands free, a golden retriever in a purple WOOPF™ harness trotting beside him.

    Go hands-free

For a run or a hike, open the side-release buckle, pass the loop round your waist, close it and check it sits at your hips, not your ribs.

  • A man in a purple jumper waits at the kerb by a zebra crossing, the padded handle of a purple Explorer Bungee Leash in one hand and the traffic handle above the clip in the other, a golden retriever in a purple WOOPF™ harness at his knee.

    Use the traffic handle

At the kerb, in a crowd or when another dog appears, drop down to the loop above the clip. Your dog is at your knee and the stretch is out of play.

  • A man in a purple jumper sits cross-legged and checks the screw-gate clip of a purple Explorer Bungee Leash, the bungee section and padded handle across his lap, a golden retriever in a purple WOOPF™ harness lying beside him.

    Check the bungee

Before every run, look at the stitching and the clip gate and stretch the middle section. Retire the lead when the bungee no longer returns to length or the webbing frays.

Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, emergency veterinarian

A bungee lead softens the jolt; it does not stop a dog. Attach it to a harness, not a collar, for any dog that pulls: repeated jerks on a collar bruise the windpipe and, in small breeds, can worsen a collapsing trachea. Do not use waist mode near traffic, with a reactive dog, or with a dog that can pull you over, and never wrap any lead around your hand. Puppies should not run on lead for distance until their growth plates have closed, at about 12 months in small breeds and up to 18 months in large ones. Check the webbing and the clip before every run, and retire the lead when the bungee stops returning to length.

Why I designed it

A lunge on a fixed lead goes somewhere. I wanted it to go into the lead.

A dog hits the end of a standard lead and the force has two places to go: your shoulder, or your dog's neck. In emergency I see the second one, the coughing terrier that yanked itself to the end of a collar and lead, and the owners who tell me about the first one while I am examining the dog.

  • A pull instead of a snapThe bungee core stretches through the jolt so both ends feel a pull instead of a snap.
  • The lead I actually useThen the parts that make it the lead I actually use: a buckle so it goes round my waist for a run and my hands are free, a traffic handle by the clip for crossings, and a swivel clip so the lead never twists.
  • Tested at homeBridie and Kiko tested every version.
  • Not a training toolOne honest line: it is not a training tool, and it is not for a dog that lunges at other dogs, because the stretch gives them half a metre at exactly the wrong moment.
  • If your dog pullsFix the pulling with the Explorer Harness and the training, and use this lead for the walks and runs in between.

    • Love these bungy leads. Great for the dog as it cushions any sharp tugs and looks after the owner end as well. I own 3 of these leads in different colors. They are great.

    • Gotta give an honest review, this lead is amazing! Super sturdy thick dring. And thebuckle adjusts easybutstays put with any pulling. The bungee is lighter, so perfect so our small dog, not having to pull like a tank for it to work, the clasp is amazin, locking easy and a nice easy opening. The handle is also amazing close to dog. Yellow colour is super bright! Highly recommend!

Is a bungee lead good for a dog that pulls?

It makes pulling hurt less, for both of you, and it does nothing to teach the dog not to pull. Use it on the back ring of the Explorer Harness so the force stays off the neck, and fix the pulling with training and a front-clip walk. For a reactive dog that lunges at other dogs or traffic, choose a lead with no stretch for those walks, the Sealskin Leash or the Explorer Adjustable Leash, because the bungee adds distance at the wrong moment.

    How does hands-free mode work?

The padded handle is a loop with a side-release buckle in it. Open the buckle, pass the loop round your waist, close it, and the lead is attached to you at the hips with both hands free for running, a pram or coffee. The traffic handle above the clip stays within reach for the kerb. Hands-free is for a dog that already walks well and that you can hold if it does not.

Can I run with my dog on it?

That is what it is for: the bungee takes the jolt out of the changes of pace and waist mode keeps your arms moving. Clip it to a harness, not a collar. Two vet rules: no distance running for a puppy until the growth plates close (about 12 months in small breeds, up to 18 in large ones), and no running in the heat of the day; if the footpath is too hot for the back of your hand, it is too hot for pads.

    How long is it?

About 1.6 m relaxed, stretching under load. The exact relaxed and stretched lengths are being re-measured and will be published here; until then treat the 5.5 to 7 ft range as the working figure.

Will it suit a small dog or a big dog?

From about 5 kg up. Below that the bungee barely engages under the dog's own weight and a light fixed lead gives better feedback. Big, strong dogs are exactly who it helps most, with the one caveat that waist mode is only for a dog you could stop by hand if you had to.

Does the clip rust or tangle?

The clip is a rustproof swivel that rotates a full turn, so the lead untwists itself when the dog circles. Rinse it in fresh water after the beach and let it dry open; sand in the gate is the one thing that stops any clip closing cleanly.

    How do I clean it?

Rinse or wipe it after mud and salt water and hang it to dry. If it is filthy, machine wash cold in a laundry bag and hang it up; never tumble dry the bungee section. Check the stitching and the clip gate while it dries.

What if it arrives damaged or I chose the wrong colour?

Email hello@woopf.com as soon as you notice, with a photo and your order number. Faulty, damaged or incorrect items are fully covered and we pay the return shipping when the error is ours. Wrong colour and unused in its packaging? Email within 14 days and we will look at a swap.
