探险者双狗牵引绳连接器
Two dogs, one lead, one hand. Two bungee arms of about 30 cm from a single D-ring, so when one dog stops to sniff and the other keeps going, the jolt goes into the webbing, not into the other dog. Twist-lock swivel clips at both ends so the lines never cross and the gates never open. Clips to any lead you own. Harnesses on both dogs, always.

How it works
Why two dogs on one lead works when the lead does the maths

Two dogs on one lead, and the jolt goes into the bungee
The coupler is a V: a D-ring at the apex for your lead and two arms of about 30 cm at rest, each with a bungee section woven into the webbing.
- Shoulder to shoulderThirty centimetres is enough for two dogs to walk shoulder to shoulder without treading on each other and short enough that neither can get round a pole.
- The stretch takes the differenceWhen one dog plants its feet and the other keeps walking, or one lunges sideways at a smell, the stretch in both arms absorbs the difference.
- No yank for the dog that behavedThe dog that was behaving does not get yanked, and the hand holding the lead feels a pull rather than a snap.
- Bungee on both sidesThat is the whole reason a coupler should have bungee on both sides and not on one.

Swivels at both ends, so the lines never cross
Two dogs swap sides fifty times on a walk.
- A swivel on each armEach arm ends in an anodised aluminium carabiner with a swivel at its base, so the coupler turns with the dogs instead of winding itself into a rope.
- A twist-lock gateTurn the sleeve and the gate cannot be pushed open against a harness ring, a fence wire or the other dog's clip, which is how dogs on cheap splitters get loose.
- One dog off, one still onUnclipping one dog to let it off in the park takes one hand and a second, and the other stays attached.
- Rinse after the beachThe hardware does not rust; rinse it after the beach and let it dry with the gates open.

Clips to any lead. Best on the Bungee Leash, always on harnesses
The D-ring takes any standard lead clip, so the coupler turns the lead you own into a two-dog lead.
- Best on the Bungee LeashPut it on the Explorer Bungee Leash round your waist and it adds a second layer of give and frees both hands for the pouch and the bags.
- In town, the short settingIn town, put it on the Explorer Adjustable Leash at the short setting.
- On a harness back ringThe arms clip to the back ring of a harness on each dog: two Explorer Harnesses and this coupler are the two-dog setup the whole range is built around.
- Never to collarsA coupler passes every stop and lunge from one dog to the other, and on a collar that force lands on the throat.
Size guide
Two Dog Walker fit guide: which two dogs
Three fit rules
-
One size: two arms of about 30 cm (12 in) each at rest, 63 cm tip to tip, stretching under load. The stretched length is being confirmed on a measured coupler. It is not adjustable: the arms stretch, they do not shorten.
-
For two dogs from about 5 kg that already walk on a loose lead, roughly matched in size and manners. If one dog could drag the other, or either is reactive, walk them separately until both are calm; a coupler shares every lunge between them.
-
Harnesses on both dogs, never collars. Clip the arms to the back rings of two Explorer Harnesses and the D-ring to the lead. Hold the lead short in traffic: a coupler has no traffic handle, so the lead is the handle.

How to
How to set up a two-dog walk

Harness both dogs
An Explorer Harness on each, fitted to two fingers. The coupler goes on harnesses, never on collars.

Clip the D-ring to your lead
Any lead with a standard clip. The Bungee Leash round the waist is the hands-free setup; the Adjustable Leash at 1.2 m is the town setup.

One arm to each back ring, then lock
Clip each carabiner to a harness back ring and turn the sleeve until the gate is locked. Check both before you step out of the gate.

Walk with the lead short
Stronger or bouncier dog on the side you can hold. Keep the lead short near traffic and other dogs; the coupler has no traffic handle of its own.

Check the clips and the bungee
Once a month: sleeves turn and lock, swivels spin, bungee returns to length, stitching at the D-ring and the clips intact. Retire it when the bungee stays stretched or the webbing frays.
Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, emergency veterinarian
A coupler joins two dogs, so every lunge, stop and tangle is shared. Use it only with two dogs that already walk on a loose lead and are roughly matched; a reactive dog walks alone, because a coupler teaches the calm dog to join in and drags it along when the other one lunges. Harnesses, never collars: a jerk through a coupler lands on the other dog, and on a collar that is the throat. Never tether two coupled dogs and leave them, even for a minute; coupled dogs that wrap round a post or each other can strangle. Hold the lead short in traffic and near other dogs, keep the stronger dog on the side you can hold, and never wrap the lead round your hand. Check the clips, the sleeves and the bungee stitching every month.

Why I designed it
Two dogs on one lead doubles the physics. The lead has to do the maths.
I walk two golden retrievers, so I know the moment: one stops dead to sniff a post and the other has just seen a cat. On two separate leads that is a shoulder each and a tangle at your knees. On a rigid splitter it is worse, because the lunge goes straight down the other arm into the dog that was standing still, and if that dog is on a collar, into its throat. So the Two Dog Walker is built around where the force goes.
- Bungee on both armsEach arm has a bungee section, so a stop-and-go between the dogs is absorbed by webbing rather than by a spine.
- Twist-lock swivel clipsEach arm ends in a swivel clip with a twist-lock sleeve, because two dogs cross behind each other constantly and a coupler that twists is a coupler you are forever unwinding, and because a gate that opens against a harness ring is how a dog ends up on the road.
- Clips to any leadThe apex is a plain D-ring that takes any lead, and the lead I would put it on is the Bungee Leash, round the waist, so both hands are free for the bags.
- Tested at homeBridie and Kiko tested every version, being the pair it was built for.
- Harnesses, never collarsThe honest lines: harnesses on both dogs, never collars, because a coupler shares every jerk; two dogs that already walk calmly, because a coupler shares every bad habit too; and a reactive dog walks alone.

Can I walk two dogs on one lead safely?
Yes, if both already walk on a loose lead on their own, they are roughly matched in size and strength, and neither is reactive. A coupler shares everything: when one lunges the other is pulled, and when one is nervous the other learns it. Clip the arms to the back rings of an Explorer Harness on each dog, never to collars, hold the lead short in traffic, and let them off one at a time in the park. If one dog could drag the other, walk them separately until that changes.
Is the length adjustable?
No. Each arm is about 30 cm at rest and stretches under load because of the bungee section; it does not shorten. The old listing and one of the cards call it adjustable, and they are wrong, so this page does not. Thirty centimetres a side is the length that keeps two dogs side by side without either getting round a pole, which is why it is fixed.
Does it need two harnesses?
Yes, and it is the one rule I will not soften. A coupler passes every stop, lunge and tangle from one dog straight to the other. On a harness that force lands on the chest and the back; on a collar it lands on the throat, and two dogs on collars through one coupler can strangle each other when they cross. Two Explorer Harnesses, back rings, then the coupler.
Which lead should I clip it to?
Any lead with a standard clip works on the D-ring. The Explorer Bungee Leash is the one to use: round the waist it frees both hands and its own bungee adds a second layer of give. In town, the Explorer Adjustable Leash at the short setting keeps both dogs at your knee. A retractable lead is the one lead not to use with two dogs.
Will it suit two dogs of different sizes?
Within reason. Both dogs should be over about 5 kg, because the clips are heavy for a tiny dog and the bungee barely engages under one, and neither should be strong enough to drag the other. A Labrador and a spaniel walk well on it; a Labrador and a chihuahua do not, because every one of the big dog's lunges is delivered to the small one. The slower dog sets the pace, so a young dog and an old dog is a kinder pairing than it sounds.
Do the clips lock, and will they rust?
Both clips are anodised aluminium carabiners with a twist-lock sleeve on the gate: turn the sleeve and the gate cannot be pushed open against a harness ring or the other dog's clip. Aluminium does not rust. Rinse the clips in fresh water after the beach and let them dry open, because sand in the sleeve is the one thing that stops it turning cleanly. The swivel at the base of each clip is what stops the coupler twisting when the dogs swap sides.
Can I use it for a puppy and an adult dog?
Not until the puppy walks on a loose lead by itself. A puppy coupled to an adult learns one of two things: to be towed, or to pull; neither is the lesson. Walk the puppy alone on the Adjustable Leash and the harness until it walks calmly, then introduce the coupler on a quiet street. And no distance running on a coupler for a puppy until the growth plates close, at about 12 months in small breeds and up to 18 in large ones.
What if it arrives damaged or I chose the wrong colour?
