  1. 0:05 Good day. I'm Dr. Duncan Houston and this is my fake living room.
  2. 0:12 What do I have here? I have a lot of beds. These are actually part of the top range of stuff. So, the vet orthopedic kind of range is the top part. You know, we've got a few different styles.
  3. 0:23 Now, this one is the SNÖR. So, the open front, the vet orthopedic open front, but I call it the SNÖR range. Why do I call it the SNÖR range?
  4. 0:32 Look, this bed is best for the kind of dogs that have a bit of joint issues. They don't like to kind of climb over a bed and get in. That's why these have an open front.
  5. 0:41 So, that's pretty much the reason why I built this range. Also, little dogs can't always climb over stuff. But anyway, it's much easier for a dog to get in and out of these.
  6. 0:50 But why are these also really good? Well, actually, it's memory foam. So, it's really nice orthopedic memory foam, but the memory foam is also infused with lavender.
  7. 1:01 That's right. The memory foam inside these beds is infused with lavender.
  8. 1:08 These are really good. Like on the outside, you've got these bolsters. It's all kind of chopped up memory foam on the sides, and then in the middle bit is like one solid piece. You can unzip these.
  9. 1:21 So this whole range—or I should say the bottom—has these kind of like grippy, sticky dots. They don't work on carpet and things, but if you put them onto flat surfaces like wood or tiles, you know, that kind of stuff, they'll stick a bit straight away.
  10. 1:34 But if you leave them there long term, and as your dog kind of steps on them and puts some pressure on them, they do actually get really sticky the longer they sit on a specific flat surface.
  11. 1:44 So anyway, look, you can take that bottom bit off, and wow, you have the memory foam which is lavender infused on top. You can see it right there.
  12. 1:54 So this is actually a waterproof casing for it. So if your dog wees or has diarrhea or whatever, you can take this out.
  13. 2:00 There you go. The zip is on the inside for this one. Sorry, I thought it was on the outside; it's on the inside.
  14. 2:06 And you can take out the giant sausage bolster. And then you can put—oh, it's two pieces. Two, two pieces of memory foam bolster. Yeah, it's like all chopped-up memory foam.
  15. 2:18 Then you can put this in the washing machine—like, you know, slow spin cycle and cold wash is best—and then hang it out in the sun to dry.
  16. 2:27 I should also say—oops, I should also say—these come with what's called velvet fur on top. It's a fake fur—don't hate me—but a velvet fur.
  17. 2:36 It's like a rabbit fur kind of material. It's really soft and really nice, like I really like it.
  18. 2:41 And the outside's kind of just a, you know, a fabric weave that just looks good. Like, there's no other point for it rather than looking good.
  19. 2:48 So this is kind of a brown and cream. Then you've got black on black, and then you've got gray on gray.
  20. 2:58 So, you know, I have a dog with hip dysplasia, and then, you know, my family—the family dog has quite bad arthritis.
  21. 3:06 So anyway, that's the SNÖR range, which is the vet orthopedic open-front range. Very easy for arthritic dogs or small dogs to get into, and they have a nice soft bolster to put their head on.
  22. 3:18 Okay, let's go to the next bed.

How it works

Why the SNÖR works for small dogs, seniors and sore joints

Illustrated golden retriever stepping over the low front of a grey WOOPF™ SNÖR Vet Orthopedic Bed with a white fur top, its bolsters on the other three sides

A front they step over, not jump onto

Jumping onto a bed loads the shoulders and elbows on the way up and the hips on the way down. The dogs that need an orthopedic bed are exactly the dogs that should not be doing it.

  • Who should not be jumpingSeniors with arthritis, small breeds with wobbly kneecaps, dachshunds and other long-backed dogs whose spines I would rather protect, and anything recovering from surgery.
  • A low lip at the frontThe SNÖR drops the front edge to a low lip.
  • Step in, turn aroundThe dog steps in and turns around; nothing gets jarred.
  • Full bolsters on three sidesThe bolsters stay full height on the other three sides for the head-resters and leaners.
Illustrated cutaway of a grey WOOPF™ SNÖR Vet Orthopedic Bed, the fur top and the back bolster opened to show the layers inside the cushion and the bolster

Memory foam where the weight goes

A soft, loose-filled bed feels lovely in the shop and bottoms out under a hip within a week.

  • Fluff over a hard floorThe dog is then lying on a thin layer of fluff over a hard floor, which is why you see them shift position all night, choose the cold tiles instead, or take three stiff steps every morning.
  • Memory foam spreads the pressureThe SNÖR base is memory foam: it takes the shape of the hip and shoulder and spreads the pressure across the whole contact area instead of concentrating it on the bony points.
  • Sized for small and medium dogsThe SNÖR is the lighter build in the WOOPF™ range, sized for small and medium dogs.
  • The SNÜZ for big, heavy dogsThe deepest support for big, heavy dogs is the SNÜZ.

Built for the mess of real recovery

Old dogs leak. Post-op dogs have drains, ointments and the occasional accident. Puppies are puppies.

  • A machine-washable coverThe cover comes off and goes in the machine.
  • Soft, warm faux rabbit furThe faux rabbit fur top is soft and warm without being a hair magnet.
  • Wipes clean, looks like furnitureThe linen-look base and walls wipe clean and keep the bed looking like furniture rather than a dog blanket.
  • A mild lavender scentThe foam carries a mild lavender scent. Treat it as a calm cue for a dog settling into a new bed, not as a treatment for anxiety.

Three sizing rules

  • Measure your dog lying down, nose to the base of the tail. For a dog that curls up, choose a bed at least 15 cm wider than that number; for a dog that stretches out, 30 cm. The bolsters take some of the outer width, so do not size to the millimetre.

  • Weight bands: Small for cats and dogs to 8 kg, Medium for 8 to 18 kg, Large for 18 to 30 kg curled. Between sizes, go up. Once it arrives, watch how they lie: a head hanging off the front or a hip on the floor means too small.

  • Dogs over 30 kg, and any dog that sleeps flat out on its side, belong on the SNÜZ, which runs to 115 x 90 cm in the Large and carries a heavier foam base.

How to

How to move your dog onto an orthopedic bed

  • Illustrated golden retriever lying in a grey SNÖR Vet Orthopedic Bed beside an armchair where a woman sits

Put it where they already sleep

Dogs choose spots, not beds. Same room, same corner, on top of wherever the old bed was. Move it to where you would like it a week later.

  • Illustrated woman kneeling by a new cream SNÖR Vet Orthopedic Bed just out of its box, a clock on the floor and a golden retriever waiting

    Give the foam a day

If it arrives rolled or compressed, let it recover for 24 to 48 hours before you judge the base. Memory foam also softens a little as it warms under a dog.

  • Illustrated golden retriever stepping into a cream SNÖR Vet Orthopedic Bed towards treats a kneeling woman has put on the far side

    Lure, do not lift

A few treats on the far bolster, a meal fed on the bed, praise when they step in. Lifting a sore dog onto a bed teaches nothing and can hurt them.

  • Illustrated golden retriever stepping off a cream SNÖR Vet Orthopedic Bed onto a grey mat a kneeling woman holds flat in front of it

    Fix the floor in front

The step in is low, but a senior still has to push off the floor to get out. On tiles or floorboards, put a non-slip mat or rug in front of the bed.

  • Illustrated woman loading the grey fur cover of a SNÖR Vet Orthopedic Bed into a front-loading washing machine

    Wash the cover every fortnight

More often after accidents or with a post-op dog. Cold gentle cycle, air dry. A bed that smells wrong gets abandoned for the couch.

Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, BVSc

A bed is comfort, not treatment. Stiffness after rest, reluctance to jump or use stairs, licking at one joint, or a limp that lasts more than a day or two needs a veterinary examination, not a better bed. Orthopedic bedding is one part of arthritis care, alongside weight control, sensible exercise, joint support and the pain relief your vet prescribes. After orthopedic surgery, follow your surgeon's confinement plan: a low bed like this one belongs inside the pen or crate, not as a reason to skip it. The lavender is a mild scent in the foam, not an oil your pet can lick. Air the bed for a day before first use if your pet has airway disease, and stop using it if they avoid the bed or seem irritated by it.

Why I designed it

The bed I want under a dog the morning after I have operated on it.

Bridie, my golden retriever, had both hips replaced a few years ago. What she needed afterwards was not a pillow.

  • A surface that held its shapeShe needed a surface that held its shape under a full-grown golden retriever, and a front she could step over instead of climb.
  • That is the SNÖRA memory foam base for the joints, a low front so nobody has to jump, bolsters on three sides for the dogs that like something to lean into, and a cover that comes off and goes in the wash, because recovery is messy.
  • The lighter, lower bed in the rangeIt is the lighter, lower bed in the range, and that is deliberate.
  • Who it is forSmall breeds, seniors, dachshunds and dogs coming home from surgery are who it is for.
  • Buy the SNÜZ insteadIf you have a 40 kilo dog that sleeps flat on its side, buy the SNÜZ instead.
  • I would rather say that hereI would rather say that here than have you squeeze a big dog into a small bed and blame the bed.

    • Our girls is nearly 12. She is a bit arthritic but she loves this bed. Easy for her to get on and off and she does enjoy spending time on it. We love the Woopf brand and the beds are fantastic - so much so we bought two different ones and our dog loves both.

    • The SNÖR is the more approachable price point in the WOOPF orthopedic range and it absolutely delivers. My dog sleeps deeply and wakes without the stiffness she showed on her old flat cushion bed. The design is simple and clean — it fits into any room without looking out of place. I'm so impressed.

    • Our dog has mobility issues from an old injury, and this bed has noticeably reduced his discomfort during rest. The memory foam genuinely conforms to his shape.

What makes a dog bed orthopedic, and is this one?

Nobody regulates the word, so look past it. What matters is a foam base that does not bottom out under the hip and shoulder, a shape the dog can get into without jumping, and a cover you can wash. The SNÖR has a memory foam base rather than loose fill, a low front and a removable cover. It is the lighter, lower bed in the WOOPF™ range, built for small and medium dogs; for a heavy dog with bad joints, the SNÜZ has the thicker, heavier base.

Which size does my dog need?

Small for cats and dogs up to 8 kg, Medium for 8 to 18 kg, Large for 18 to 30 kg if they curl up to sleep. Measure your dog lying down from nose to the base of the tail and pick a bed at least 15 cm wider than that for a curler, 30 cm for a stretcher. Between sizes, go up. Over 30 kg, or a big dog that sleeps flat out, go to the SNÜZ.

SNÖR or SNÜZ: which orthopedic bed should I buy?

SNÖR if your dog is small or medium, older, short-legged or recovering from surgery and the priority is getting in and out without a jump. It is also the entry price in the orthopedic range. SNÜZ if your dog is big or heavy, or has advanced arthritis: it runs to 115 x 90 cm, carries a 2 cm memory foam layer over 5 cm of support foam, and has a waterproof inner cover. Same brand, same washable covers, different job.

Will it help my senior dog who struggles to get up?

The low front helps with getting in and out. Getting up from lying down is a different problem: it is about traction and muscle, so put a non-slip mat in front of the bed on hard floors. If getting up is a daily struggle, book a vet visit rather than a bed. Arthritis pain in dogs is very treatable and most owners wait too long.

Is the lavender safe for dogs and cats?

The scent is set into the foam, not applied as an oil that a pet can lick or roll in, and for most dogs it is a mild calm cue at best. Cats are more sensitive to essential oils than dogs, so if the Small is for a cat, or your pet has airway disease, air the bed for a day before first use and skip it if they avoid it. It is not a sedative and it does not treat anxiety.

    How do I wash it?

Take the cover off and machine wash it cold on a gentle cycle, then air dry; heat shrinks fur fabrics. Spot clean the linen base. The inner casing is waterproof and comes off separately for cleaning, but deal with accidents quickly and put a towel or blanket over the bed while a post-op dog is leaky. Every fortnight in normal use.

Do the SNÜZ covers fit the SNÖR?

No. The SNÜZ Slip-On Covers and the waterproof cover are cut to the SNÜZ sizes (73, 94 and 115 cm wide); the SNÖR is 61, 71 and 91 cm. A spare SNÖR cover is not sold separately yet, so wash and dry the one it comes with rather than buying a SNÜZ cover for it.

What if the size is wrong, or it arrives damaged?

Damaged on arrival or faulty: email hello@woopf.com with a photo and your order number as soon as you notice, and it is covered. Wrong size and it is unused in its packaging: email within 14 days and we will look at a swap. A bed a dog has slept on cannot come back for hygiene reasons, so measure your dog lying down before you order, and keep the box until you are sure.
