How it works
Why the waterproof cover exists, and when to take it off again

The whole bed, sealed: top, bottom and sides
This is not a mattress protector that lies on top and slides off in the night.
- The whole SNÜZ goes insideThe SNÜZ goes inside it: the cushion and the bolsters, sealed in a waterproof shell.
- Zip round the base, underneathA heavy-duty zip runs round the base, underneath, where a dog cannot chew it and a claw cannot catch it.
- The foam stays as it left the factoryAn accident stays on the surface. The waterproof inner covers never get tested, and the foam, the one part of the bed you can never wash, stays exactly as it left the factory.
- The layer for the nightly washThe SNÜZ has waterproof inner covers already; this is the layer for the household where a fortnightly cover wash has become a nightly one.

For the puppy, the senior, the post-op patient and the digger
Four dogs need it. For the first three, wipe it and move on; for the digger, it is the difference between a cover that lasts and one that does not.
- The puppy in trainingThe puppy in training, for the two months before the bladder catches up with the brain.
- The older desexed femaleThe older desexed female who dribbles in her sleep, which is common, treatable and not her fault.
- The dog home from surgeryThe dog home from surgery with a drain, a seeping incision or a cone that knocks the water bowl over, for as long as the surgeon says.
- The diggerThe digger, whose claws pull the loops out of a bouclé in a month and slide off a smooth waterproof weave instead.

What it is not: warm-proof, breathable, or a fit for every bed
A waterproof fabric is a coated fabric, and a coated fabric does not breathe the way bouclé does, so it is warmer to lie on.
- A towel on top in summerIn summer, a cotton blanket or a towel over the top makes a hot dog happier and washes more easily than the cover does.
- Cut for the SNÜZ, three sizesIt is cut for the SNÜZ bed, the bouclé and the suede, which share their shape and their three sizes.
- Not yet checked on other bedsThe corduroy frame, the NÄP nest and the SNÖR have not been checked against it and the page will say so until they are.
- Dig-proof is not chew-proofThe weave gives a claw nothing to hook and the zip is out of reach, but no fabric made survives a dog that chews through covers, and that dog needs a different conversation.

Three sizing rules
-
Buy the size of the SNÜZ bed it goes on. Small covers the Small (73 x 58 x 15 cm), Medium the Medium (94 x 74 x 15 cm), Large the Large (115 x 90 x 15 cm). The bouclé and the suede SNÜZ share those sizes.
-
It is a full enclosure, so the whole bed goes inside and the zip closes round the base. Unzip it fully, put the bed in, then zip it closed underneath.
-
The corduroy SNÜZ, the NÄP and the SNÖR are different shapes. Nothing published confirms the cover on them, so do not buy it for those beds until it does; email hello@woopf.com and ask.

How to
How to fit, wipe and wash it

Zip it on over the whole bed
Unzip it fully. Put the bed in, smooth the top, then close the zip underneath. Two minutes the first time, one after that.

Wipe first
Most accidents come off with a damp cloth and a little pet-safe cleaner in under a minute. Wipe, dry, done. The machine is for the soakings.

Wash it cold when you have to
Unzip, take the bed out, machine wash the cover cold on a gentle cycle, and hang it to dry. Never tumble dry it and never iron it; heat is what ends a waterproof coating.

Check the zip
Once a week, run a finger along the zip line for hair and grit, especially on a digger. A zip that jams is a zip that gets forced.

Take it off when the reason is over
A puppy that is dry for a month, a drain that is out, a bladder that is back under control: the bouclé is the nicer thing to sleep on, so go back to it and keep the cover for the next time.
Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, BVSc
A wet bed is a symptom before it is a laundry problem. A house-trained adult dog that starts wetting the bed needs a vet, not a cover: urinary infections, bladder stones, diabetes, kidney disease, Cushing's disease and the hormone-responsive incontinence of older desexed females all present this way, and most of them are treatable. A puppy still having regular accidents past six months needs the same visit. Wet bedding left under a dog causes urine scald and skin infection within a day or two, so a wet cover is wiped or changed the same day, every time. After surgery, follow your surgeon's instructions on keeping the incision and any drain dry and covered; a waterproof bed does not replace a clean, dry dressing. A dog that digs its bed to shreds is usually bored, anxious or too hot, and the fix is in the day, not the bed. Nothing about a waterproof cover is a treatment for anything.

Why I designed it
The dogs that most need an orthopedic bed are the dogs most likely to wet one.
Think about who sleeps on a SNÜZ. The old dog whose bladder is going the way of her hips. The dog home from surgery with a drain that oozes for three days. The puppy who is not there yet. I send dogs like that home every night, and the bed they go home to is usually ruined inside a month, because you cannot wash foam.
- Zip the whole bed insideThe SNÜZ already has waterproof inner covers on the cushion and the bolsters, and for most households that is enough. This cover is for the households where it is not: it seals the whole bed, top, bottom and sides, in a waterproof shell that wipes clean.
- The diggerThe smooth weave also gives a digger nothing to hook, which is what wears a bouclé out.
- Two honest linesIt is cut for the bouclé and suede SNÜZ and I have not confirmed it on the corduroy frame or the NÄP, so do not buy it for those yet. And a waterproof fabric is not a breathable one; it is warmer to lie on, which is why I would rather you used it for the months you need it than forever. Bridie and Kiko tested every version.

Which beds does it fit?
The SNÜZ bed, in bouclé (the SNÜZ Vet Orthopedic Bed) or suede (the SNÜZ Orthopedic Suede Bed): they share one shape and three sizes, and the cover comes in the same three. Buy the size of the bed you own. The SNÜZ Orthopedic Corduroy Bed is a different shape, a four-sided frame, and the NÄP and the SNÖR are different again; nothing published confirms the cover on any of them, so do not buy it for those until it does.
Is it waterproof, or just water-resistant?
The listing says 100% waterproof, and a coated woven fabric is. The places any waterproof cover lets go first are the seams and the zip line, which is why the zip runs underneath and why the advice is to wipe an accident promptly rather than leave it to pool. Wipe it, dry it, and the foam under it stays dry.
Is it really dig-proof?
The weave is smooth and tight, so a digging claw slides instead of hooking the way it does in bouclé loops, and the zip is out of reach underneath. That is what the word means here, and it is a real difference for a nester. It does not mean chew-proof: no fabric survives a dog that chews through covers, and a dog doing that to its bed is bored, anxious or in pain, which is a vet and a trainer, not a thicker cover.
Is it hot to sleep on?
Warmer than bouclé, yes: a coating that keeps water out keeps air in. Most dogs do not notice in winter. In summer, or for a thick-coated dog, put a cotton blanket or a towel on top; it is cooler, it catches the hair, and it washes more easily than anything else on the bed.
My dog has started wetting the bed. Is that normal?
No, and it is the reason to see your vet before you buy anything. A house-trained dog that starts wetting the bed may have a urinary infection, bladder stones, diabetes, kidney disease or, in older desexed females, a hormone-responsive incontinence that responds well to medication. A puppy still having regular accidents past six months needs the same visit. Buy the cover for the weeks it takes to sort out; do not let the cover become the reason you never do.
How do I wash it?
Wipe first: a damp cloth and a little pet-safe cleaner handles most accidents in under a minute. For a soaking, unzip, take the bed out and machine wash the cover cold on a gentle cycle, then hang it to dry. No tumble dryer, no iron, no bleach; heat and bleach are what end a waterproof coating. Check the zip line for hair once a week so it never has to be forced.
What if the size is wrong, or it arrives damaged?
Damaged or faulty on arrival: email hello@woopf.com as soon as you notice with a photo and your order number and it is covered. Wrong size: returns are considered within 14 days on unused items in their original packaging, so match it to the bed size you own before you order.
