  1. 0:04 Good day. I'm Dr. Duncan Houston and this is my fake living room.
  2. 0:12 Anyway, well, what do I have here? Right here I have the Vet Orthopedic range.
  3. 0:17 This is the SNÜZ range. It is in suede fabric. Suede with some kind of linen fabric here, but it is a suede material.
  4. 0:27 Now, why are these good? Well, as we're talking about all the Vet Orthopedic range and the premium range, you have a centerpiece pillow for this one. And this memory foam is infused with lavender. So, you have lavender memory foam in the whole Vet Orthopedic range.
  5. 0:45 The reason why I call this the SNÜZ is because it's just a general bed. You know, there are beds very similar to this. It's, you know, kind of a standard bed, but this is very good. You know, I've selected this actually from a manufacturer for human beds to make this.
  6. 0:58 Now, why is sleep important? You know, they're obviously going to live longer, be healthier. You know, joint health is a really big thing. You know, now that dogs and cats are living longer, cats can obviously sleep in this, too. Yeah. Obviously, sleep is a huge thing for everybody, not just cats and dogs, but for humans as well. So, if they can have a good sleep, then that's pretty much why I'm doing this.
  7. 1:18 Compared to competitors, a lot of competitors have like a higher wall on these. Look, it looks nice having a higher wall and they can kind of get inside, but you know, if we're looking at this from kind of a perspective of the dog, a lower wall means it's easy to get in and out of. It also means that if they're a larger dog, they can put their head on the side. They're not going to have their head kind of kinked up, which isn't, you know, great for them long term.
  8. 1:41 So, that's why I've gone with a lower wall on these compared to competitors. And again, they also have the lavender-infused memory foam, so it's really easy for them to have a nice, good sleep. Hopefully, it helps.
  9. 1:50 What else about these ones? Look, you've got the suede on top, which is quite nice. You've got it in cream, you've got black, and you've got gray. If you've got a really dirty dog, dirty house, just go for the black. It's so much easier. But gray and cream look nice, you know, depending on what style of house that you have. I've gone for these kind of more general colors because they will fit into most living rooms.
  10. 2:11 Anyway, let's take this apart so I can show you what's in everything.
  11. 2:15 Anyway, so easy to zip off. These are very good zippers, just fabric always catches with zippers.
  12. 2:20 Anyway, look, you can low slow spin cycle 30 degrees or less Celsius to be able to wash these, you know, and then they do come with a waterproof cover. So, you can see the purple here, that's all the lavender-infused memory foam. Waterproof cover in case your dog pees or poos the bed. Very easy to wash the cover and then just put it out in the sun.
  13. 2:41 They also come with grippy dots on the bottom. Look, they don't stick to fabric like carpet or whatever, but for flat surfaces like tiles or wooden floors or something like that, these will stick. They stick better with time. So, the dog sleeping on this or the pressure just from the bed sitting on like a flat surface, these will stick to the floor better and better the longer they are in the one spot. If you move them around, it doesn't work as well, but they do give a bit of grip.
  14. 3:08 So, let's open this up. The wall or the bolster will come out in one piece. It's memory foam. Very easy to get out. And it comes with a waterproof cover.
  15. 3:18 Hi. So, that's the outside. This can be washed, very easy to wash just in the washing machine. Low spin cycle. Feels nice.
  16. 3:28 Yeah, you've got three different options. You've got the suede and linen. Then you've got the bouclé or "bullet," I don't know. And then you've got, you know, I like the third option, which we'll see soon, which is the thick corduroy option. It's very, very soft like really good quality and it's not just standard bed stuff. It's premium.
  17. 3:46 But anyway, these are really high quality, really good product. You know, this is the SNÜZ range bed that orthopedic lavender infused.

How it works

Why the suede SNÜZ is the orthopedic bed for a house full of hair

Illustrated golden retriever lying on a cream SNÜZ Orthopedic Suede Bed: smooth suede where the dog lies, a linen-look band round the base

Suede where the dog lies, linen where the floor is

The cover is two fabrics doing two jobs. The sleeping surface and the bolsters are a smooth, short-nap suede.

  • Hair sits on topHair sits on top of the suede instead of working into a weave, so a rubber glove or the vacuum's upholstery head lifts a week of golden retriever off it in a minute.
  • No loops for a clawThere are no loops for a claw to hook when a dog scratches the bed into shape before lying down, which is what wears a bouclé or a fur pile out first.
  • A tougher band round the baseRound the base, where the floor, the vacuum and the wall do their damage, the fabric changes to a tougher linen-look band.
  • Wipes clean, zips off to washA muddy paw print wipes off with a damp cloth between washes. The whole cover zips off and goes in the machine.
Illustrated cutaway of a cream SNÜZ Orthopedic Suede Bed: the suede outer cover, the waterproof inner cover, lavender memory foam in the base, memory foam in the bolsters and YKK zippers

Underneath, it is the SNÜZ: two layers of foam and waterproof inner covers

The dogs that most need an orthopedic bed are the ones that flatten an ordinary one. Under the suede is the same base as the bouclé SNÜZ.

  • Two layers of foamTwo centimetres of memory foam that take the shape of the hip and shoulder, over five centimetres of denser support foam that stop the bed bottoming out under 40 kilos.
  • Waterproof inner coversThe cushion and the bolsters each have a 100% waterproof inner cover, because old dogs leak in their sleep and post-op dogs come home with drains.
  • The foam never sees itAn accident stays on the surface and never reaches foam you cannot wash.
  • 15 cm is the bolster heightThe 15 cm on the live listing is the bolster height, not the foam.

Cooler to lie on, bolsters all round, and lavender that knows its place

A smooth surface holds less air than a looped or piled one, so suede feels cooler to lie on than bouclé or fur.

  • Thick coats and hot summersThe cover for a thick-coated dog, a warm room or a hot summer.
  • Memory foam bolsters all roundThe bolsters are memory foam, 15 cm high, all round, for the dogs that rest a head or wedge a back against something.
  • A grippy rubber-dot baseThe base is a grippy rubber-dot fabric.
  • Lavender as a calm cueThe foam carries a mild lavender scent. Treat it as a calm cue for a dog settling into a new bed, not as a treatment for anxiety or anything else.

Three sizing rules

  • Measure your dog lying down, nose to the base of the tail. For a dog that curls up, choose a bed at least 15 cm wider than that number; for a dog that stretches out, 30 cm.

  • Weight bands: Small for cats and dogs to 12 kg, Medium for 12 to 30 kg, Large for 30 to 55 kg or any dog that sleeps stretched out. Between sizes, go up. Once it arrives, watch how they lie: a head hanging off the front or a hip on the floor means too small.

  • A small or short-legged dog, a senior that struggles to step over 15 cm, or a dog just home from surgery may be better on the SNÖR, the lower and lighter bed in the range.

How to

How to move your dog onto an orthopedic bed

  • Illustrated golden retriever asleep on a grey SNÜZ Orthopedic Suede Bed beside a man working at a desk

Put it where they already sleep

Dogs choose spots, not beds. Same room, same corner, on top of wherever the old bed was. Move it to where you would like it a week later.

  • Illustrated man unzipping the cover of a grey SNÜZ Orthopedic Suede Bed while a golden retriever sits and waits

    Give the foam a day

It ships compressed. Unzip the cover, let the foam recover for 24 to 48 hours before you judge the base, and expect the memory foam layer to soften a little as it warms under a dog.

  • Illustrated man laying treats on the bolster of a grey SNÜZ Orthopedic Suede Bed as a golden retriever steps in

    Lure, do not lift

A few treats on the far bolster, a meal fed on the bed, praise when they step in. Lifting a sore big dog onto a bed hurts you both and teaches nothing.

  • Illustrated golden retriever stepping off a grey SNÜZ Orthopedic Suede Bed onto a purple non-slip mat in front of it

    Fix the floor in front

A senior still has to push off the floor to get up. On tiles or floorboards, put a non-slip mat or rug in front of the bed.

  • Illustrated man vacuuming the suede of a cream SNÜZ Orthopedic Suede Bed with an upholstery head

Brush it weekly, wash the cover every fortnight

A damp rubber glove or the vacuum's upholstery head lifts the hair off suede in a minute. Every fortnight, unzip the cover and machine wash it cold on a gentle cycle, then air dry; heat flattens the nap. Wipe the waterproof inner covers; never put the foam in the machine.

Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, BVSc

A bed is comfort, not treatment. Stiffness after rest, reluctance to jump or use stairs, licking at one joint, or a limp that lasts more than a day or two needs a veterinary examination, not a better bed. Orthopedic bedding is one part of arthritis care, alongside weight control, sensible exercise, joint support and the pain relief your vet prescribes. A callused elbow is normal on a big dog; a soft, fluid-filled swelling over the elbow is a hygroma and wants a vet before it becomes an abscess, and a padded bed is part of how it is managed. After orthopedic surgery, follow your surgeon's confinement plan: the bed belongs inside the pen or crate, not as a reason to skip it. The lavender is a mild scent in the foam, not an oil your pet can lick. Air the bed for a day before first use if your pet has airway disease, and stop using it if they avoid the bed or seem irritated by it.

Why I designed it

Same bed as the bouclé SNÜZ. The suede is for the houses where the hair wins.

I am not going to pretend the foam is different, because it is not.

  • Same bed as the bouclé SNÜZThe suede SNÜZ has the same two layers under the cushion, the same memory foam bolsters and the same waterproof inner covers as the bouclé.
  • What you are choosing is the coverWhat you are choosing is the cover, and the cover is the part you live with.
  • Two golden retrieversI live with two golden retrievers, so I know what a looped fabric looks like after a month: the undercoat works into it and stays.
  • Suede is smoothHair sits on top and brushes off, a muddy paw print wipes off with a damp cloth between washes, and there is nothing for a claw to hook when a dog scratches its bed into shape before lying down. It also feels cooler to lie on than the bouclé, which matters in summer.
  • Not a luxury in this houseBridie has two artificial hips, and a bed that keeps a big dog's hips and elbows off the floor is not a luxury in this house.
  • Buy the SNÖR insteadIf your dog is small, short-legged or just out of surgery, buy the SNÖR instead: lower, lighter and cheaper. Bridie and Kiko tested every version.

Is the suede SNÜZ the same bed as the bouclé SNÜZ?

Yes. The base, the bolsters, the waterproof inner covers, the three sizes and the prices are the same as the SNÜZ Vet Orthopedic Bed sold in bouclé; only the outer cover changes. Choose by the cover, not the foam: suede is the smooth one that hair brushes off and claws do not catch, bouclé is the looped, warmer one. If your dog is small, short-legged or recovering from surgery, the lower and lighter bed in the range is the SNÖR, and it is the one to buy.

Which size does my dog need?

Small for cats and dogs up to 12 kg, Medium for 12 to 30 kg, Large for 30 to 55 kg or any dog that sleeps stretched out on its side. Measure your dog lying down from nose to the base of the tail and pick a bed at least 15 cm wider than that for a curler, 30 cm for a stretcher. Between sizes, go up. A golden retriever or a Labrador that sleeps flat needs the Large.

Suede, bouclé or corduroy: which cover should I choose?

Suede if the house is full of hair, the dog scratches the bed into shape before lying down, or the room runs warm: hair sits on top of a smooth surface, there are no loops to hook, and it feels cooler to lie on. Bouclé if the dog is a cold sleeper who likes texture; it is the warmest of the three. The SNÜZ Orthopedic Corduroy Bed is a different shape, a bolster frame on all four sides with a cushion that lifts out, in a thick-line corduroy that is the most forgiving of claws; same sizes and prices. A serious digger does best with the Dig-Proof and Waterproof Cover over any of them.

Does dog hair show on suede?

It sits on the surface rather than working into a weave, which is the point: a damp rubber glove, a lint roller or the vacuum's upholstery head takes it off in a minute. What you see between brushes depends on the colour match. Dark hair shows on Cream, pale hair shows on Black, and Grey hides most coats. If your dog sheds heavily, pick the colour nearest the coat and brush the bed when you brush the dog.

    Is it really waterproof?

The inner covers are: the cushion and the bolsters each have a 100% waterproof inner cover under the suede, so an accident stays on the surface and never reaches the foam. The suede outer cover is not waterproof; a wet patch wipes off if you get to it, and the cover zips off and goes in the machine if you do not. For a dog that leaks every night, or a puppy in training, the Dig-Proof and Waterproof Cover goes over the whole bed and wipes clean.

Is the lavender safe for dogs and cats?

The scent is set into the foam, not applied as an oil that a pet can lick or roll in, and for most dogs it is a mild calm cue at best. Cats are more sensitive to essential oils than dogs, so if the Small is for a cat, or your pet has airway disease, air the bed for a day before first use and skip it if they avoid it. It is not a sedative and it does not treat anxiety.

How do I wash the suede cover?

Unzip it and machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, then air dry out of direct sun; heat and tumble drying flatten the nap. When it is dry, a brush over the surface lifts the nap back up. Wipe the waterproof inner covers with a damp cloth, and never put the foam in the machine. Every fortnight in normal use, sooner after an accident; between washes, a damp cloth on a mark and a rubber glove for the hair.

What if the size is wrong, or it arrives damaged?

Damaged or faulty on arrival: email hello@woopf.com as soon as you notice with a photo and your order number and it is covered. Wrong size: returns are considered within 14 days on unused items in their original packaging, so measure your dog first and keep the box until you are sure; the Large is a big parcel.
