Dr Duncan explains the Furry Curves Round Bed

- 0:04 Good day. I'm Dr. Duncan Houston and this is my fake living room.
- 0:13 This is the Furry Curves round bed. So, as the name says, Furry Curves. It's furry with bumps. The fabric has like—it's just the fabric length. It goes from short to long. It's not like fabric thickness, but yeah. And it's round.
- 0:27 Anyway, comes in white and also comes in cream and three sizes. You have small, medium, and large.
- 0:33 These ones, you cannot remove the inner cushion. The inner cushion is built in. You can't separate the cushion from the rest. You can remove it though to wash the outer fabric.
- 0:44 So, yeah, with these, you've got a zipper down the center that removes that center cushion that I was talking about.
- 0:50 These are not machine washable. You can just wash them with your hands and then put them in the sun to dry. But yeah, look, don't machine wash them.
- 0:59 You have a nice leather logo for WOOPF™. You have very nice, soft, premium fabric.
- 1:05 Then on the bottom, you have this very grippy fabric. It's like all these little dots. Does grip straight away. It doesn't work on carpet, but it works on flat surfaces, so like wooden floors and tiles.
- 1:16 It grips better and better over time. So if you leave the bed in the one spot and the dog keeps sleeping in it, the rubber dots start to stick to the floor. They stick over time. And then I've had to like go [grunts] to be able to pull them off.
- 1:27 So that's the center part that's done. You've got a nice little bit of elastic here or elastic Velcro protecting the zipper.
- 1:36 You can remove the outside and you get the bolster, which is the wall. Then you get the donut ring. Oh, I'm skinny enough for that, just!
- 1:46 And this can go in the washing machine. So this is okay. I would still use one of those—you know, the delicates—the delicates bags to be able to wash these covers, but you know, obviously if you have a big one like this, you may not be able to get something big enough for that.
- 2:00 All right, so that's it. It's got very nice lining fabric on the inside. Keep your finger underneath the zipper as you zip it along. Otherwise, you do catch the fabric. I'm speaking from experience having to zip things all the time, like now.
- 2:14 Anyway, zips all the way to the end. Put the Velcro zipper back on. And then I would probably just stretch this out like I'm making a pizza. I don't know why I did that.
- 2:25 All of these beds are exactly the same. I'm just doing it on the small one because it's on top. That's the Furry Curves sleeping range round bed. So small, medium, and large.
- 2:34 These are very good standard beds. I would say for most brands they would be premium beds, but for me, because I've got the orthopedic range, these are just my standard range. Anyway.

How it works
Why it is fur all the way through, how to size it, and what the listing has not proved

Fur inside and out
Most donuts put the soft fabric where the dog lies and something harder on the outside. This one is long faux fur all the way through: the cushion, the inside of the bolster, the top of it and the outside of the ring, with a wavy pile (the "curves" in the name) that lies in soft ridges rather than flat.
- The softest of the donutsA dog that pushes its nose into fur to sleep has fur at every angle; a cat kneads it; a small dog can disappear below the bolster and still be lying on fur.
- A bolster all the way roundA chin rest and a back rest at every angle, and the enclosed shape a curler chooses.
- Their own heat, kept inThe fur keeps their own heat in, with nothing plugged in.
- Cream is a light latteA removable cover for the machine (the listing), in Cream, a light latte in the photographs rather than a cream, or White.

Three sizes, measured by the curl
A donut is a bed for a dog that sleeps in a ball, and a ball is a size you can measure: nose round to tail, asleep.
- Under 35, 45 or 65 cmUnder about 35 cm curled is the Small, under about 45 cm the Medium, under about 65 cm the Large, and between sizes go up.
- Weight, as a guideCats and dogs to about 8 kg, 8 to 15 kg, and 15 to 30 kg; two small dogs that sleep together take the Large.
- A bolster 17 to 22.5 cm highThe same height all the way round, so the chin has somewhere to go whichever way the dog turns.
- 59, 77 and 100 cm acrossThe same three footprints as the corduroy donut; the well inside the bolster is a good deal smaller than the outer size, which is why the outer measurement is so much more than the curl.

What it is not
Three things to know before you buy.
- Not a grip baseNo non-slip fabric is listed, so on tiles or floorboards it moves when the dog circles and digs; the Furry Corduroy Round Bed, with its rubber-dot base, is the one for a hard floor or a crate tray.
- Not published foamThe listing says memory foam and nowhere says how thick, how dense or where, so this page calls it a cushioned base; an old, stiff or post-op dog belongs on the NÄP, the SNÜZ or the SNÖR.
- Not a treatmentThe enclosure, the bolster and the warmth are real, and a nervous dog often settles faster in a ring. That is a shape, not a medicine.

Three sizing rules
-
Measure your pet curled up the way they actually sleep, nose round to tail. The well inside the bolster is a good deal smaller than the outer size: under about 35 cm fits the Small, under about 45 cm the Medium, under about 65 cm the Large, and between sizes go up.
-
Weight bands, curled up, as a guide: Small for cats and dogs to about 8 kg, Medium for 8 to 15 kg, Large for 15 to 30 kg. A Cavalier fills the Medium; a golden retriever lying in the Large is the box photograph. Two small dogs that sleep together take the Large. These are a guide from the sizes, not a published limit.
-
A dog that sleeps stretched out, on its side with its legs straight, does not want a ring at all: a bigger donut just wastes the bolster. Look at the Furry Curves Sleeping Mat, the same fur laid flat, or the SNÜZ sofa. A dog over 30 kg, or any dog with sore joints, wants published memory foam under it: the NÄP, the SNÖR or the SNÜZ.

- Base fabric
- Not described on the listing. The Furry Corduroy Round Bed is listed with a rubber-dot base; this one is not, so on a hard floor assume it moves
- Cover
- Removable, machine washable (the listing)
- Care
- Cover off, machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, no softener, air dry out of the sun, brush the fur back up. No tumble dryer, no iron. Brush the whole bed weekly for hair

How to
How to size it, place it and keep it clean

Measure the curl, not the dog
Curled up, nose to tail: under 35 cm the Small, under 45 cm the Medium, under 65 cm the Large. A dog that sleeps flat out on its side wants the flat mat, not a bigger ring.

Put it on carpet or a rug
Beside the couch, by your side of the bed, on the rug. Nothing on this bed is listed to grip a hard floor, so on tiles put it in a corner or buy the corduroy donut instead.

Let them make the nest
Circling, digging at the cushion and pushing the nose into the bolster is the bed being used properly. Straighten the cushion on wash day, not every morning.

Brush weekly, wash the cover fortnightly
A slicker brush or a rubber glove lifts the hair and stands the pile back up. Cover off, cold wash, gentle cycle, air dry, brush again; weekly for a dog with itchy skin, the same day after an accident.

Watch how they get up
If the dog is stiff after a sleep, slow to rise or reluctant to step over the bolster, the bed is not the fix and a title tag will not be either: see your vet, and move to published memory foam (the NÄP or the SNÜZ).
Vet noteDr Duncan Houston, emergency veterinarian
Heat: fur on every surface is warm, which is the point in winter and a risk for a flat-faced dog, an overweight dog or an old dog on a hot night; if they are panting in it, take it away until the weather turns. Chewers: a puppy or a young dog that opens a seam and eats the fill can block a gut, so check the ring and the seams weekly and retire the bed the day one goes. Accidents: fur holds urine against the skin, so wash the same day. A donut is comfort, not treatment: a dog that is stiff after rest, slow to rise, reluctant to jump or use stairs, licking at one joint or limping for more than a day or two needs a vet's examination and, usually, published memory foam under it.

Why I designed it
The soft one: fur inside and out, in the size the dog actually is.
Of the three donuts I sell in three sizes, this is the plush one. The honest lines, and there are three.
- Fur everywhere a dog touches itThe corduroy has the tough skin and the grip base; the shag has the long pile in two sizes; this one is long faux fur everywhere a dog touches it and everywhere it does not, bolster, cushion and the outside of the ring, in a wavy pile that a dog pushes its nose into and a cat kneads.
- For a carpeted room, a quiet dog and a catIt is the bed for a carpeted room, a quiet dog and a cat, and it comes in the same three footprints as the corduroy, 59, 77 and 100 cm, so a Chihuahua and a Border Collie each get the size they curl in.
- No grip base listedThere is no grip base listed on this one: on tiles or floorboards it will move when the dog circles, and the corduroy donut is the one to buy for a hard floor.
- A soft nest, not an orthopedic bedThe listing calls the base memory foam. Nothing published says how much or how dense, and until that is on this page I will not sell it to you as an orthopedic bed: buy it as the soft nest it is, and buy the NÄP for a sore hip.
- Calming is the enclosureCalming is the enclosure and the warmth, not a treatment; a dog that paces or trembles needs a vet. Bridie and Kiko tested every version.

We love it! Very well made. The only challenge was getting the package open. So much tape.

Which size do I buy?
Measure your pet curled up, nose round to tail, the way they actually sleep: under about 35 cm is the Small, under about 45 cm the Medium, under about 65 cm the Large, and between sizes go up. As a guide that is cats and dogs to about 8 kg in the Small, 8 to 15 kg in the Medium and 15 to 30 kg in the Large. A Cavalier fills the Medium; a golden retriever lying in the Large is the box photograph. Two small dogs that sleep together want the Large. A dog that sleeps stretched out wants the Furry Curves Sleeping Mat, not a bigger ring.
Is it memory foam?
The listing says so, in its title and on one of its cards, and nowhere says how thick, how dense or where. We have asked the maker, and this answer changes the day we hear. Until then the honest description is a cushioned base: comfortable for a healthy dog or cat, and not something to buy for a sore hip on the strength of a title. A dog that is old, stiff or recovering from surgery belongs on the NÄP Vet Orthopedic Bed, the SNÜZ Vet Orthopedic Bed or the SNÖR Vet Orthopedic Bed, whose memory foam is published with its thickness.
Does it slide on floorboards?
Probably: no non-slip base is listed on this bed, and a fur donut on a hard floor moves when a dog circles in it. On carpet or a rug it stays put. If the bed is going on tiles, timber or a crate tray, buy the Furry Corduroy Round Bed, which is the same three sizes with a rubber-dot base, or put this one in a corner where the walls hold it.
Will it help my anxious dog?
In one real way: a nervous dog settles faster inside a bolstered ring, with something at its back and a wall between it and the room, and this is a proper one in the softest skin. It is not a treatment. A dog that paces, trembles, drools, will not eat when you are out or cannot be left at all has a fear that a bed cannot fix; that is training, sometimes medication, and a conversation with your vet, and the sooner the better.
Curves or corduroy?
They are the same donut in the same three sizes with a different skin. This one is fur everywhere, the softest surface, and the one for a carpeted room, a gentle dog and a cat; the Furry Corduroy Round Bed has a wide-wale corduroy outside that takes claws and brushes clean, and a rubber-dot base that grips a hard floor. Digger, muddy dog, tiles or a crate: corduroy. Quiet dog, cat, carpet, and you want the plushest bed in the room: this one.
How do I wash it, and does the fur hold hair?
The cover comes off (the listing) and goes in the machine cold on a gentle cycle, no softener; air dry out of the sun and brush the pile back up. No tumble dryer and no iron: heat mats faux fur for good. We are confirming what comes apart, whether the cushion lifts out and whether the bolster itself washes, and this answer changes the day we do. Yes, fur holds hair: a slicker brush or a damp rubber glove once a week lifts it and stands the pile up, and the Cream, which is a light latte, hides tan hair where the White shows everything.
Is the Cream actually cream?
No. In every photograph it is a light latte, a warm pale taupe, and the box shot shows it beside a golden retriever a shade lighter than the dog. If you want a pale bed, buy the White.
What if the size is wrong, or it arrives damaged?
Damaged or faulty on arrival: email hello@woopf.com as soon as you notice with a photo and your order number and it is covered. Wrong size: returns are considered within 14 days on unused items in their original packaging, so measure the dog curled up before you order rather than after. And yes, the box is taped well; a customer said so.
